i think there is no question that kareem is the best center besides Bryon Russel to play the game. Kareem has the most points ever...that by itself separates him from everyone.

well still, the way I see it he still accomplished it...i mean its not like he was a bad player either...he was a great center that had a trademark shot that soon won him titles, fame, money.
Kareem easily is an all time top 5 player, his skills for a center are second to none. Shaq is more dominant but Kareem has accomplished more individually and even winning wise.

The NBA game was so different back then and I dont know how Shaq would have faired. It was less about the bling, and more about team orientation, basic skills and hard work. There was more talent on each team as the players almost always had 4 years of college under their belt and fewer teams. The players did not move around from team to team as they do now either, so you had players that knew each other much better and played better together. The likes or Kareem, Wilt, and Bill Russell might have mopped the floor with Shaq.
On the other hand, Shaq had incredible speed and quickness for a man of his size, so that might have made up for the skills difference.
How sad it is that we simply cannot turn a dial and select players and or teams to play against each other from different eras. That would be fun!

If Shaq was more dominant, at his most dominant he would have averaged more rebounds than Kareem at his most dominant (he didn't), or at least more blocked shots (he didn't), or maybe more points (he didn't), or maybe Shaq played against tougher centers (he didn't).

I respectfully dont really agree with you here. Read what I wrote above. And as far as domination from a physical perspective, I don't think Shaq could have pushed Wilt or Russell around that easily, and Shaq would have actually had to play some real defense for a whole game and a whole season.
