Default Cuttino Mobley To Retire?

UPDATE: Mobley has officially retired: http://www.insidehoops.com/mobley-retired-121108.shtml

EARLIER:

Quote:
Mobley is mulling retirement, pending the results of these tests, according to a source. The Knicks fear he could have symptoms of the fatal heart disease hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

The Knicks approved the Mobley trade despite the heart issues because they were eager to clear cap space. Mobley failed his Knicks physical because of an enlarged heart, and a decision on Mobley's future is expected next week when test results are in.

If Mobley retires, the Knicks may have to foot the whole bill on his $18 million contract. It is believed Mobley's contract may be uninsured for heart issues.

Quote:
With his former Rockets and Magic teammate Cuttino Mobley mulling retirement, Rockets guard Steve Francis spoke with Mobley on Friday only to find his friend “terrible” while facing an agonizing decision.

Mobley, who was in Los Angeles on Friday, has been seeing specialists to determine if he can safely continue his career despite a heart ailment that has raised concerns of Knicks doctors during his physical following the trade from the Clippers to New York.

“It’s looking like he might (retire),” Francis said. “It’s close. That’s the same ailment he has played with his whole career, even here. It’s terrible. He didn’t sound too good today.

“It’s tough. I know how much he loves playing basketball. I don’t know how he’d react. He’s close to a decision.”

Despite his own struggles with the Knicks, Francis said he was especially hopeful for Mobley after the trade, believing that Mobley would be a good fit in Mike D’Antoni’s offense.

“It would be really disappointing to me,” Francis said. “I thought he’s play better than I did in New York. That was what I was hoping. Eleven points (Francis’ average with the Knicks) – he can do that.”

Normally this would be a time to laugh at the Knicks for trading for a guy that won't play for them but in Mobley's case thats so damn tragic. He's always been a favorite player of mine and hes always been a classic NBA 2 even in this era when the average size of a SG is 6'6 215.

What some people don't realize is that hes the last active player in the NBA to have played with Hakeem Olajuwon,Scottie Pippen, and Charles Barkley. That's an achievement in itself to have been able to be on the same team with 3 of the best players at their position in NBA History.

You care, and thats what matters.

Wait, arent you the guy who picked like Anthony Randolph or something over Elton Brand in fantasy?

No, there's already a duplicate thread on this same matter, oh, I'd say, maybe a page or two back.

i'm pretty sure the NBA will be able to replace mobley with another gifted but selfish athlete. call it a hunch.

i mean yea, i feel sorry for anyone with that serious condition, but i also see people all around me who don't have the resources that a multimillionaire does to get top quality treatment for their serious conditions.

Mothersucker!, he was the last piece to the puzzle.

Man, Cat may have heart disease. He needs to go ahead and hang it up, he's has a fine 11 season career. He'll always be remembered as a Rocket.

he was playing fine before the trade. you wonder if it turns out to be some heart disease, this trade could end up saving his life. if he never got traded, he wouldve never gotten the physical to check his heart.

how crazy the nba world is some days

Na, he's always hade this condition, Francis said since the Houston days. It must be gettin' worse since he's not passin' the physicals now (I doubt all those past teams he's played with HOU/ORL/SAC/LAC would let him play with heart disease.)

Stevie Francis should think about retiring to because he's done.
