Angry DEC. 30 Protest Of Rogers Cable Over Lack Of TSN2! Support Your Fellow Raptor Fans.

The Protest is planned to start at 8am Tuesday December 30th at Rogers building which is located at 333 Bloor St. East (SE corner of Bloor & Jarvis St).

Here's a link to the event: http://dinonationblog.blogspot.com/2...ors-on-tv.html

This protest is planned to take place at Rogers but it is not just an attack against them. I don't think any fans really understand who is to blame. But Andrew is committed to getting this message out and plans to have protests in the future at TSN and MLSE as well until this matter is resolved. He is doing it for his fellow fans many of which can not afford to go to a game and experience Raptors basketball. These are tough times for people and that is becoming a growing list of people that can not afford to take in a game at the ACC. But there are road games that are not being broadcast as well and that impact is even greater. Andrew expressed that this is not just against Rogers but all 3 parties.

Andrew expressed to me that he wants people that come down to bring signs, whistles, horns and your passion for basketball and the Raptors. He also expressed that he wants this to be peaceful. I would express that as well. Be loud and passionate however do not use this as chance to be an idiot. Show the best of what being a Raptor Fan is all about. People always complain about the government but many of the folks that complain sat home on election day. Raptor Fans have complained about this issue of TSN2 and the broadcasting of the Raptors. This is a chance for you to express your feelings. If you sit back and do nothing the result will be the same. So if you can get out to this, write an e-mail, make a phone call. Do it and be part of getting this situation solved.

TSN2 is just more competition for Rogers Sportnet.

ANd they will do what they can to drag out the matter.

I think it's on channel 500 or something. Get digital or watch it online. No big deal.

Which screen would you rather watch the game, a tiny computer one, or a 58 inch plasma in HD.

BTW, I went by the Rogers headquarters today to see what's up with the so called protest, and didn't see any sort of commotion in front of the building.

A small, but noisy group protested yesterday against Rogers Cable, which is refusing to pick up TSN2 and its 23-game package of Toronto Raptors games.

The demonstrators carried signs, blew whistles and voiced their complaints outside the Rogers offices in downtown Toronto.

They could have played a game of roundball, but just barely.

At its peak, the group consisted of 10.

"Not a great turnout," said organizer Andrew Ebanks, a fan living in Toronto. "But a few were better than none. Eighty-three had signed up, but it was pretty cold out there."

Ebanks said he was encouraged by the reaction.

"The traffic along Bloor Street slowed down, even stopped," he said. "One guy got out and had his picture taken.

"People were honking horns and yelling support. Even the employees of Rogers gave us thumbs up, because they know the situation and they want to get it resolved as well."

Raptors fans subscribing to Rogers Cable have been frustrated and angered by the company's decision not to carry TSN2.

Bloggers have been fulminating for months.

A protest group on Facebook has grown to 700 members.

The Dino Nation blog encourages its readers to complain to Rogers, TSN and the Raptors, as well as the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission.

TSN, which launched TSN2 in August, and the Raptors owner, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, haven't escaped blame.

MLSE, after all, agreed to place the games on TSN2, before knowing how much distribution the new channel would receive. And TSN was gambling that Rogers would pick it up.

Still, there isn't much cover for Rogers in this dispute.

Every major cable and satellite distributor in English Canada is carrying TSN2 except Rogers, a big company that services New Brunswick, Newfoundland, the Ottawa region and, most important, southern and central Ontario and Toronto, where the Raptors are most popular.

The reasons for Rogers saying no to TSN2 aren't complicated. The company owns Rogers Sportsnet, which competes for viewers against TSN and now TSN2.

In return for carrying TSN2, Rogers wants something back. Insiders say the quid pro quo is likely to involve TSN2 agreeing to air a package of Toronto Blue Jays telecasts.

Rogers owns the Jays and places the games on Sportsnet, TSN and the CBC. But the networks aren't interested in the less desirable Jays games, for example, those with late starts on the West Coast.

Since Rogers strives for saturation Jays coverage, it may insist that TSN2 air the games that other networks don't want.

There's also the issue of cable subscription fees. Cable companies, such as Rogers, pay the content providers a fee for carrying their channel.

That fee used to be set by the CRTC, but the recent deregulation of the industry has produced a free-market environment where each cable channel makes its own deal with the cable companies.

The fees that Rogers will pay TSN and TSN2 have likely been part of the negotiation.

Both Rogers and TSN say negotiations are moving closer to an agreement, but Ebanks says he's heard that before.

"It's like the little boy crying wolf," he said. "After a while, you stop listening."

So far, Rogers customers have been denied five Raptors telecasts and will miss a sixth on Friday, when the Houston Rockets visit the Air Canada Centre.

That's why there was a police cruiser suspiciously parked at that corner just watching the building.

I've said it before, but dudes, you're not missing anything. There's a reason TSN2 exists, and it's mostly to replay sh*t that has already aired over on the one that matters. A couple Raptor games here & there? Who cares? If it's that big of a deal not to miss a game, there's almost always a link you can hit.

A formal protest? Come on now, really? Sorry, but anyone who's actually about to go to such lengths as to bring angry signs and horns to the steps of the Rogers building is a complete and hopeless loser. What a shock that a crowd of ten whole people showed up.

Frankly I can't believe some people are so surprised that Rogers would choose not to carry a channel operated by its most direct competitor. Isn't it pretty obvious the kind of horrible business decision that would be?

Stop it. Just stop it.

It's just disappointing that a Major Sports Team Like the Raptors in such a Large city like Toronto wouldn't televise it's game to everyone ..... EVERY TEAM IN THE STATES HAVE ONLY ONE MAIN TELEVISION BROADCASTING NETWORK FOR THE NBA TEAM ..... IN Toronto last time i checked there was like 5 ...... it's ridiculous!

Since when should a Raptor fan care about the politics and business dealings/strategies of these companies. What the average Raptor fan wants is pretty simple --- just to watch the local pro basketball team play a game on TV. That's not asking for much.

Right at this moment 30% of the games won't be broadcasted if this issue isn't resolved. Big chunk.

I DON'T CARE IF IT MAKES GOOD BUSINESS SENSE TO THESE COMPANIES. Just make it happen.

Honestly who gives a sht right now. Raptors right now are a disgrace. Until BC pulls the trigger on a blockbuster this team will be a snorefest. I would rather watch the leafs play because unlike the raptors they actually put forth a consistent effort regardless of the score or who they are playing.
