Default Mario dethroned

http://videogames.yahoo.com/feature/...e-ever/1276855

Quote:
According to game-tracking website VGChartz, sales of Nintendo's pop-culture phenom Wii Sports have surpassed those of legendary platformer Super Mario Bros., making the breakout Wii title the best-selling video game of all time. And it only took two years and two months to do it.
The data is based on cumulative worldwide sales figures ending the week of December 27, 2008, which indicate that lifetime sales of Wii Sports have exceeded Mario's staggering 40.24 million units.
Shocked? Don't be. Unlike most video games that can be bought at retail, Wii Sports comes bundled with the Wii hardware in every territory other than Japan and Korea. In other words, if you bought a Wii, you bought Wii Sports whether you liked it or not (chances are, you liked it). With over 45 million Wiis sold worldwide to date, it's only logical that Wii Sports would start smashing records sooner or later.

Doesn't seem fair a bundled game counts.

Didn't the NES come with Super Mario Bros or Duckhunt?

I swear everyone had those games by default back then

Indeed…
Super Mario Bros. was packed in various sets through out the NES lifespan. Thats how it was able to achieve its spot as a top seller.

The thing with Wii Sports is that EVERY single solitary Wii sold includes Wii Sports where Nintendo sold sets of the NES without SMB (control set, deluxe set)

Nintendo comes out on top no matter what it seems.

Mario 64 sales are rather impressive seeing as only 33 million N64s were sold compared to 100 million Playstations.

I thought The Sims was the best selling game of all time, beating out Myst?

Not Mario.

Kinda feel like I should buy DS, seems like everyone has one based on how their games sell.

There really isn't much else... A PSP with its 10 games a year? or a DS with an uncountable number of releases a year (sure half of them are shovelware but there are still some diamonds in the ruff)

I'm surprised by the Gran Turismo sales.

It's one of my favorite series of all time, but I didn't realize how popular it was.

Crazy how you would get SMB, SMW and Tetris free with the NES, SNES and Gameboy. Those are all terrific classics.
