Default Tyree or Holmes?

Which clutch catch do you prefer?

For me, It's Tyree's catch. A rookie who barely played all year [right?] for a team who shouldn't have been there in the first place, playing one of the greatest NFL teams in the history of the league, making it maybe the biggest upset ever.

Holmes caught a ball against a weak defense, and for no other reason.

on one hand, AZ kinda knew they were done, the Holmes catch was the dageer, the Tyree catch was crazy but wasn't the DAGGER

I give it to Holmes for ending AZ's game with his catch.

Yeah, but did anyone expect 'Zona to win? The best team won last night. The team that was supposed to win.

No one in the free world, except New York, thought they had a chance. That makes it the more important catch, IMO.

Tyree hands down, for the same sort of reasons I posted about why last year's SB blew this one out of the water. In 50 years people will still be talking about that grab, whereas if you ask about Holmes, no one will even remember his name.

Classic Superbowl... no wonder this is where all the companies want to bring out the best. They dont do this for the World Series or the NBA Finals

I thought NY had a great chance last year and I even posted here telling a few posters before hand to watch their mouths when they were laughing about how NY was gonna get ate up by the pats.....

they laughed.....

tyree's catch was better. the novelty of this year's super bowl is still fresh, and when people get tired of talking about it, tyree's will be remembered more than holmes'. it was a great game this year, but lets not get irrational about it.

also:

advertisers couldn't care less about the results of the game. its the most watched event of the year, and thats why they bring their best stuff. they want to leave a lasting impression on the viewers, because it is the easiest time to reach the most people (if you have the money for it). plus it is a lot easier to reach an audience for one game than it is for a series of games.

Both catches ripped my heart out. Tyrie's catch felt worse because i'm a Patriots fan, but Holmes catch was for a touchdown so that almost evens it out.

I prefer the Holmes catch. The fact that it was for a TD to win the game puts it over the top, imo.

The other thing is, while Tyree obviously made a great effort, that was like a 2nd grade playground completion. Manning should have been sacked, then he just threw the ball up for grabs. Tyree made a great play with Harrison ripping at the ball, but even Tyree admits that it was pure luck that he was able to hold onto the ball.

The Ben to Holmes TD was pure skill, all the way around. An absolutely perfect pass by Roethlisberger, as he put it in the only place where his receiver had a shot and the defense couldn't get to it and Holmes looked the ball into his hands, somehow got both feet down... There was nothing 'chance' about it. It was just a beautifully skillful play. A perfect pass and catch for the game-winner in the Super Bowl... hard to top that.

I respect your viewpoint, but I can guarantee that in fifty years people will remember the catch David Tyree made more than Holmes. Hell, some people have already forgotten that the Lone Gunman caught the SB winning pass. The fact that Burress' isn't even being compared to Holmes should tell you how special Tyree's was. Plus they were playing one of the greatest teams in NFL history, something the 2008 AZ Cardinals unequivocally were not. The fact that it was a playground like play makes it all that more special. Manning should've been on the ground, and Tyree had absolutely zero business catching it. They should've been facing 4th and 15 against a NE defense smelling blood. Instead they won the game.

Just my $0.02.
