Just read where Heisley is selling the Grizz to a group led by
former Dukee, Brian Davis. Looks like there will be some major
changes this year. Seeing how Jerry West was Heisley's man, this
begs the question, WWJD (What will Jerry do?) This year could
be a bumpy ride!
You have no idea.Heisley was top share holder and a billionaire. He always had the loot to pay for more talent,if need be.This new ''GROUP'' of now top share holders do not have the much extra cash. They will own the grizz majority wise but will not be so easily talked into spending extra cash non the line up.Remember it took these guys three years to scrape together enough cash to make an actual offer to buy.Now there totally spent. We might gain someone next year with all the extra money.Even then we will not get a big name ne more.On top of that the griz might move in the next couple of years. This could end up real bad for us.
It may not turn out that bad. Davis and his partners (Christian Laettner?)
may bring some needed new blood into the organization. Heisley was
only looking to make a quick profit and that is what he did. He bought them
for 160 mill and sold for 350 mill six years later. We might be better off now.
The contracts states they have to remain in Memphis for at least 10 years so
the new owners are not planning on moving them anytime soon. Davis wants to elimanate West's job so this will definately be his last year. Look for Fratello to be gone too. With all the major changes coming and with Pau being out, this year will be lottery building time. Which may not be that bad.
