Don't know how much weight they hold, but there'sa bunch of rumors going around (even on the ISH frontpage) that Shaq wants out of Phoenix and that the Cavs would be the leading candidate to land him if it were to happen.
Just imagine the media circus that would surround that team, especially since we're almost heading into the playoffs. The whole theme of this NBA season has basically been the whole Kobe vs Lebron thing- who's the MVP, who's the better player, who tips better at restaurants, etc. Now think about Shaq, Kobe's past teammate and present antagonist, going to CLE to pair up w/ Lebron and seriously vying for a championship. Take that a step further and imagine how much buzz would be around a LA vs CLE Finals match.
I know ESPN is salivating at the prospect and if David Stern is truly the puppet master many (including myself) have claimed him to be, he'll make it happen. It would be a ratings bonanza.
I could picture him there, considering big Z talking maybe an early retirement after this season. I would love to see Bron having Shaq to constantly feed, they would for sure be championship contenders.
Shaq is a lucky motha****a, this ***** will have been played with 3 of the greatest perimeter players in NBA history, and the 3 greatest post MJ era, if he wins a ring with Bron too, it shows how great of a player Shaq is also.

Yeah, speaks more highly of Shaq's ability to be a championship calibre difference maker, if anyone is lucky- it's been Penny, Kobe, Wade, and maybe in the near future, Lebron. These guys had 0 championships between them before Shaq, and where is Penny Hardaway now? All great players, but Shaq in his prime guaranteed that your team would at the very least, be in the finals and he obviously won a lot more than he lost (Hakeem, best all around center ever... and Kobe's, errr, shotjacking display in '04 being the reasons he isn't 6-0). And with Shaq paired with Lebron, I think you might as well plan the parade before the playoffs even start. He would address all of their concerns- post presence, big body (Big Baby Davis, Kendrick Perkins smoked the frontline of the Cavs), defensive presence (due to his sheer size), rebounding when he puts his mind to it, etc. Then we could have the 'Kobe, tell me how my ass taste' remix... maybe put Jay-Z on the hook.

no. trade dealine already passed. and i HIGHLY doubt Arizona will release him, especially with Amare being injured.
thought as much,
next season shaq is that year older and likley that bit less effective, but it wold be a huge trade and and epic story. shaq, kobes ex superstar teamate pairs up with kobes arch rival for a final showdown for shaqs career.so much would be at stake media frenzy. Stern probably creams his pants just thinking about it.
i really think cleevleand shold have gone out of their way to get him anyway, they could easily of dealt wallace for another shooter. shaq expires in 2010 i believe so its win win situation for cleeveland
Also, it wouldn't be a trade. Shaq would ask to be released, and if PHX granted it (which they might considering his contract and the fact they most likely won't make the playoffs), Cleveland would then have the option of signing him. It would be a big financial burden, but with the ratings, fan buzz, and a possible championship, I think they'd very seriously consider it.
LeBron needs someone who can free up the paint. Z does the job perfectly, someone like Shaq would give the opposing C the opportunity to anticipate on LeBron's drives. Plus, his contract is way too heavy and he's simply too old to be reliable enough for a championship contender imo.
From reading the threads on the deadline I remember reading that the Suns were talking a possible Shaq deal for because they wanted Szerbiack's expirer instead of Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic who expire next year. I would haveloved to see the Cavs with that roster, especially if they were able to still get Joe Smith. Shaq and Bron would have made a hell of a combo.

Just use Shaq in a pick and roll, Lebron stills gets to drive and Big Z spots up on the wing for jumpers when help D comes to stop Bron. And when Bron's on one of his shotjacking trips (usually against better teams in NBA) the ball can go into Shaq in the post, if teams leave him in single coverage he can (and does) put up 25+ pt games, if they double Cavs have great shooters and Bron is freed up. Shaq would do wonders for the team.
