Default More on the decline - music or movies?

It's no secret both the music and movie industries have been sharply on the decline for a good while now. I'm not talking about just one genre of music or one genre of movies, it's all pretty much turned into garbage compared to years past. Sure, you'll find a couple diamonds in the rough, but they're scattered so few and far between it's almost not even worth watching or listening just to discover new "classic" material.

So, not that we can all agree Hollywood and the recording studios are suffering badly these days, which is suffering the worst?

Movies, I can't ever go to the movies these days without leaving disappointed unless it's a movie made by the guy who made Superbad, Pineapple Express and Zach and Miri Make a Porno.

I'm not sure about all music but in Hip Hop, it's still good, it's just none of the good stuff is getting exposure because all the money is being made in ringtones and not album sales.

I can now name off the top of my head, better recent albums and new hip hop artists than I can new movies and new actor/ess'

I think music is. While we like to glamorize things we remember from our youth, I really do think that music IS one of those aspects that has taken a significant turn downwards. Very few of these songs will age well, and will sound really dated 5-10 years from now. A lot of what makes many of the songs from the past timeless classics is that at no point, do they ever sound dated. Rappers rapping about myspace, and using phrases that will only be popular for about 5 minutes.............it's going to sound really wack when we listen to it down the road. Just a real lack of forward thinking going on in the music industry.

If it's either, it's music. But it's neither.

An open minded view perhaps, but way off to say the least. Both have undoubtedly been in heavy decline for many years now. That's not opinion, that's fact, and any credible critic buff of either form of entertainment will tell you the same.

I'd love to see you justify that statement with regards to film.

You've got to stop pulling things out of your ass. For every critic that complains about a sharp decline in quality, there's another who is just as appreciative of the times we're living in as they are of years past.

music to extent. there are plenty of good movies nowadays, and bad ones too... but thats always how its been. but the real answer is... television. good tv shows like arrested development get cancelled because not enough people watch it, then dumb @$$ shows like american idol and dancing with the stars, which require no creativity at all KILL in the ratings and are the top tv shows nowadays in terms of viewers. i know there are some good shows, probably some ive never even heard about, but generally i think tv is the most epic failure in terms of how much it has dropped off in the past 5-10 years.

They both are going down the ****ter. Movies are just recycling the same old plots over and over & making remakes of old movies. BUT, music is worse. The music out nowadays is pretty much our equivalent of disco. Our kids are gonna look at things in say 15 years & say "What the hell, you actually dressed like that & listened to crap like that? What the hell was wrong with you?"

It has to be music. I still genuinely find 2 or 3 great movies coming out each and every year.

I'm a 90's hip-hop/rap fan and I can't force myself to listen to today's crap. But mainly I listen to Rock, Hard Rock, and Heavy Metal. Those genres are practically dead with the rise of "metalcore" ruining the scene.

Mainstream music is the worst it has ever been, but I love a lot of current music that relatively few people care about.

All you need to do to prove the ridiculously dramatic decline of music is look at rock and roll.

I download every single musical album I listen to... (so music has become more about selling an artist than making 'artistic' music...)

But I still visit my local movie box at a frequent rate.. (great films are being made because people will go out and view them.. plus, film as a whole are more graspable.)
