CHICAGO — Phil Jackson did a rare thing and stood right up to the question he has so often dodged, saying clearly that he intends to coach the Lakers again next season.
Asked here in the house of his greatest successes, United Center, if he planned to “ride off into the sunset” with a Lakers championship at season’s end, Jackson said firmly: “No, I certainly don’t.”
Jackson has usually backpedaled away from all questions about his future, citing a year-by-year policy and even dismissing his contract status as largely irrelevant. This time, he added: “I still have a year left on my contract.”

Let me add to this by also saying, any other coach can come in with the same offense...but no coach will have the same attitude that Phil has towards his players. Noone will ever come in with the "mind games", the personality...its all very unique and a proven way to prepare these players, not only to be NBA ready, but NBA greats as well.
As much as I have disagreed with Phil on many things, I don't think we will ever find a better man to lead this team.

I thought most of us knew he had 1 more season left on his contract? At least the Lakers fans.. I am not surprised by this at all. It was to be expected; anything less to be unexpected. To be perfectly honest, I will not be surprised if he gets another extension on his contract next season. He is a decent coach and coaching is probably his primary love.
The only thing that I do not like about his contract is that he gets paid like $15 million per season. The Lakers can afford it so there is nothing wrong with it.

This is definitely good news though I expected him to stay anyway. Phil does little things here and there that drive me crazy but who the hell am I to question him? Teams like the Bulls, Raptors or Heat would die to have a smart and experienced coach like PJ, we shouldn't take him for granted.
