Default R4: Revolution card for DS

If you're gonna get nerd-tough on me.. just leave the thread now. Because I'm going to be talking about something that involves video game piracy

So has anyone had any experience with using the R4 with their DS? I'm thinking about ordering one from England, as they seem to be the region with the most in stock. I've heard stories of people ordering them from within the U.S., but then they receive some bootleg junk instead. So if you've ordered one and you're happy with it, please let me know where you got it from. Any other comments about the R4, like ease or use and functionality, feel free to share.

If you dont feel comfortable posting it, just send me a PM. thanks

I have the M3, it works like a charm and really helps me enjoy the amazing NDS library without breaking the bank.

i got one of those. it's worked very well for the last year or so. besides ds back ups you can also load it up with music, videos, pics, or some of the good homebrew apps developed. (google nitrotracker - cool beat making program)

i'm starting to read more and more though that the r4 is no longer the card reader to get though as a lot of new games aren't working on it without extensive patching which goes way beyond my level.

updating the firmware has always worked for me, but lately i've had issues with some of the newer games (gta, skate it...).

R4 is very good, we use it for homebrew testing for our games

Fairly cheap to get also, although I don't pirate games as I'm in the industry, gotta support my people :)

Thats the first I've heard about the R4 not working with certain games. And I definitely want to play those two games you mentioned... so I'm thinking I might not get the R4. Thanks for the heads up.

From what I understand, the M3 was the "be all, end all" DS card before the R4 came out. But if it works flawlessly, then I would definitely want to get one. Can you PM me a good site to order it from?

R4 is extremely outdated now, it's no longer being updated by the original team, you have to go through 3rd party firmware now. It also doesn't support sdhc memory cards, so the most you can have is 2gb.

If you want to go the cheap route dstt is perfect. This is what I use and it's only 6$

If you want to go with the most features, then cyclods is a good option, but it's like 50$.

I use EZFlash for some times now, and it's really good so far.

I have an R4. It does the trick.

Easily the most well known DS card, but as someone pointed out it's pretty dated. And it's not compatible with the new DS.

Aaaaanyway...

Tell me more about the dstt, bigkingsfan. I cant argue with the price, so as long as it works with every conceivable DS game then thats definitely what I want. Is it easy to use?

Yea, just download the software, throw it onto the micro SD, make a rom folder. Upload your games into it and you're set.

The site I gave you ships from HK, they're reliable but it takes like 10 days to receive it. If you need it quicker, there are USA sites but it's more expensive...

8 gig? What the hell you need 8 gbs for? I have a 2gb, and I have 10 DS games on there, 4 classic PC games and 10+ SNES games. It probably doesn't have much space left, but it's not full either.

And that's already way too much.
