Default Gomes has chance to start?

He was a surprise last year, does he have a chance to start again this year with Jefferson back?

Yessir. Al Jefferson has more talent but Gomes is far ahead of him in knowledge of how to play the game. I bet that this year they both have games where they start but Gomes averages more minutes. I hear Doc Rivers using the s-word a lot...smallball, that is.

Gomes may start to begin the season but long-term the job is still Al's to lose.

Gomes is like the Pats' Jarvis Green - solid, smart player, but not physically big enough to be be someone you want as the regular starter (at least not at the 4 spot.) I see Gomes being the prime reserve at both the 3 and the 4 spots eventually. I guess that's also why they had him work on his ballhandling skills (more time at the 3.)

But for now, the competition is a problem you like to have.

If he does, Gomes is your power forward instead of small forward.
