Exactly. I never understood what all the fuss was about. Seems as if the media just "makes" stories so they have something to talk about at times and Terrell Owens is the latest in that saga. He says outrageous things at times, don't get me wrong but, is it really worth basicly turning ESPN into "All T.O., All the Time" when there are actually competitive games on?
Would he be treated like T.O. or Randy Moss? It seems Shockey gets off pretty easy for being a loud mouth. Why isn't the media all over him?
Agreed. There are less and less examples of racism over time, but it's definitely an example of a double-standard. Shockey is just fiery, but TO is an a-hole. "In reality...they're both nuts.
I live in the greater NY area, and Shockey gets his share of criticism. Mike and the Mad Dog on the FAN are on him all the time. They still bust his chops about that playoff game where he thought that FG went through and was running around with his helmet off like an idiot even though it was short.
He's just not a national figure the way TO is. He doesn't produce to be a national figure. I don't think it has a whole lot to do with race.
He gets a little criticism but it's not like the way TO gets treated.
Are you kidding me? NY media roasts Shockey daily. Also you have to consider the POSITION played. WR is probably the most attention grabbing postion in all of the NFL. Another reason why. Albert Haynesworth talks died down completely. He's black & has been in other altercations.
its not about race. People don't like TO, not because he's black, but because he's...get this...UNLIKABLE. The guy acts like an ass. You don't see the media trying to make Marvin Harrison look bad. Hell even a guy like Chad Johnson, who is just as flashy and loudmouthed, is more liked because he's not a cancer like Owens is.
