Default So how do you like getting Shawn Marion?

And barely giving anything up in return?

Pretty cool. But what should the lineup be?

On paper, it puts us in the top 4-5 teams in the west. We are still probably not good enough to knock off the lakers, but we are definitely closer and now at least appear to have a decent shot of being a dark horse contender. This offseason has been pretty solid so far, considering what resources we had to work with and our team needs. Wonder if we plan on doing anything else?

Probable Starters:

Kidd
Howard
Marion
Dirk
Gortat

"Small Ball" Lineup:

Kidd
Terry
Howard
Marion
Dirk

Hopefully we can still trade for Rip maybe J-Ho and Damp for him then we'll def have a contending team. I doubt that will happen as J-Ho was promised they were not gettin rid of him.

Josh hasn't been promised that he is untouchable, it was just said that we do plan to keep him and play him at the 2. But I'm not sure that either he or dampier will be traded. It will especially benefit us to hold onto dampier's contract for one more year to then use in a major trade next offseason.

We may make a few more moves, but I doubt we will land another big name player. Marion will likely be our biggest splash this summer. But you never know...

if I'm guessing, just a monetary filler. last year in toronto he only averaged like 4pt per game...3 rb per game. only played like 9min per game.

only thing that's going to help him is us losing Bass to Orlando.
---------------

my only concern with aquiring Marion is this team is really getting old (in the basketball sense of age).
if you go with a lineup of:
PG-Kidd
SG- Howard or Terry
SF - Marion
PF - Nowitzki
C- Dampier

every single 1 of them is over the age of 30 (howard will be 30 this year).

it's just like Dallas doesn't ever give younger players a chance to develop before they waive them/superglue them to the end of the bench.

Humphries is alright when he knows his role. Grab rebounds, bang, score the odd bucket down low. As long as he's not dribbling or shooting from outside his range he's ok. He broke his leg half way through last year, but he's alright when healthy.

Yeah, I'm a little worried about tying up a 31 year old to a relatively big contract, especially since his game relies so heavily on pure athleticism, which is usually the first thing to go. But if the goal is to try and win in the next few years, then it is not as big of a concern.

Not necessarily. Still have dampier's major incentive-based expirer to use. Here is an article about it:

I think it will improve the Mavs alot but i don't think it nearly puts them over the hump for a championship. The great thing about the Marion trade is that we get three expiring contracts in Jawai, Buckner, and Humphries. Buckner would be a great trade chip, he will get 4 million next year and if the Mavs can trade him for a great support player, it would be awesome.

Josh's is a team option, so he could also be considered an expirer or traded as such. Though if it's not working out with him at the 2, I wouldn't be surprised or mind if they tried to move him for a real sg by February.

I like the Marion move if nothing else for his help on the defensive end. And his game should benefit from being with Kidd. It should also be a heck of a rebounding team with that starting five.

I do wish we would get a backup point guard. I know Jet could do in a pinch, but I don't really like Barea out there for any length of time.
