Default Which MVP did Steve Nash deserve more?

It's obvious that most of us feel that Steve Nash probably didn't deserve 2 MVPs, maybe not even 1 MVP, However, If you are going to pick 1 of Nash's MVP, Which one did he earn or deserve more? The one in 2005 or the one in 2006? You have to pick one, No neither and no both.

If I recall correctly the Suns were in the lottery in 03-04, 29-53 record.

Take your time, I'm all ears.

He had a better case in 2006 in my opinion with a 26/9 player like Stoudemire out for the season and Nash still leading Phoenix to a very good record and picking up some of the scoring slack himself.

Yeah 2006 making two nobodys Bell and Diaw into household names while still making the Suns a winning team during that season but 2005 is reasonable too he made a Suns team have 60 wins after one season with them after the season before that they werent even close to that

Default Re: Which MVP did Steve Nash deserve more?

He deserved them both years. I'd say that Nash deserved it more in his first year there. The Suns weren't good before he arrived and Marbury was traded to NY the season before that (if I'm correct, too lazy to check) because thing just weren't working out. JJ and Barbose were sill considered average role players. Nash got there and under D'Antoni the Suns became the most exciting team in the league, winning 62 games. The record was a result of good coaching, the improvement of JJ and barbosa and the great play of Amare and the Matrix, but the biggest factor was Nash. Nobody saw it in him and this surprise factor was a big reason for his popularity.

The biggest reason why I think he deserved it most that year is because of the competition. Shaq was the runner up and although he had a great season it was arguable that he wasnt even 'the man' on his team (I think he was, but he gave that title to Wade). It was a 2 man race that year and Nash deserved to win it.

ShaqAttack3234
, you have a point on Amare missing out that second season. Nash really stepped up and he deserved that second MVP just like he did his first one lol I just typed this whole story and now I'm starting to doubt myself. aah well.. The turnaround the Suns made in his first year there makes me say he deserved it more that year

No way he should have either

Should have been Shaq in '05 and Kobe in '06.

How much more accurate a picture of History is it if Shaq and Kobe have two each and Nash has none as opposed to Nash with as many MVP's as Shaq and Kobe combined.

That's the most ridiculous thing in NBA award history.

The only more fradulent MVP was in 1990 when magic got it over Barkley. Barkley had way more first place votes, but was left completley off the ballot by several voters who held a grudge against Charles because they we're ignorant and\or prejudice.

The MVP doesn't exist to make an accurate picture of NBA history. Nash led his team to 60+ wins, got the best out of his teammates and also had great stats himself. Someone who has 2 MVPs isn't automatically a better player than someone who won less. Of course it has a lot to do with the circumstances (teammates, number of wins, playing style etc.) but he definitely didn't steal them.

2005

LeBron was the Real MVP in 2006.

31.4 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 6.6 apg

Cavaliers won 50 games ( For the first time since the early 1990's)

LeBron in 2006 > Shaq in 2005.

I totally disagree, I do think the main focus of awards is to help tell the history of the game. Without the MVP's attached to his name, no one remember Steve Nash for anything other then what he was, a second tier PG who was a lot of fun to watch but could guard anyone and as a result was never on a legit title contender. I agree it's a circumstantial award and it's not balck and white as to placing players in history, but if it's doesn't tell the story how come all the other two-time NBA MVP's are unquestioned legends and he is a Canadian who needs a haircut?
