The New York Knicks expect to sign restricted free agent David Lee to a one-year contract at some point after Labor Day, an official familiar with the talks said Friday.
Knicks president Donnie Walsh told that he doesn't think a Lee sign-and-trade is possible. Even though the Knicks like Lee, Walsh said he is not interested in signing the forward to a long-term contract at this point; he wants to maintain as much payroll flexibility for next summer, when LeBron James, Chris Bosh and other prominent players will be free agents.
No sign-and-trades have materialized at this point, and Walsh doesn't expect any. There is also a good chance that guard Nate Robinson will return to the Knicks on a one-year deal as well, Walsh said.
He's most likely gone after next season, but RIGHT NOW, more talent certainly doesn't hurt.
Re: David Lee To Receive 1 Year Deal, Source Says...
Lee still gonna get scraps next year also.
He isn't a first tier player which will get all the big bucks, like LeBron.
Not even be a second tier like a Joe Johnson, Bosh type.
He fits in the role player types that look good as the third or fourth best player on the team like probably a Michael Redd type player.
Since he is a big man he will get some cheese though, but it will probably come from a team that has some cap space that can't exactly sign nobody special.
Wouldn't it just stink up the joint if the Knicks worst case scenario comes up and we wind up with Michael Redd and Lee and that's it for the great 2010 plan???

I think Amare and Bosh will end up with either Wade or LeBron.I think its gonna be the a crazy summer and teams are gonna come out of it either loaded or horrible.I h8 doin this but hypothetically imagine
Wade Amare
LeBron Bosh
Celtics Big 3
Orlando's Stacked Team
Lakers ridiculous roster
Portland's youth
SA loaded roster and Duncan n Manu's last push
Atl young talented roster
Makes for some exciting basketball. We need 2 get in that mix and br8k things up.
