Game of the Year: New Super Mario Brothers Wii.

Best Gameplay: Tie: New Super Mario Brothers Wii and Trials HD

Crysis award (best graphics, duh): Borderlands - i'm more into art style than graphics, so my opinion is more overall presentation based than technical.

Best story told through a game: dunno, i habitually skip through cut scenes and dialog.

Rookie of the year (main character): Jack Cayman (Mad World)

Publisher/Developer of the year (answer one, or both, you choose): Valve

Worst game of 2009: that last halo game that was essentially a rehash of halo 3 besides the campaign which is one of the last reasons to play halo imo.

Game of the Year: Left 4 Dead 2

Crysis award (best graphics, duh): No idea

Publisher/Developer of the year: Valve

Worst game of 2009: Halo 3 ODST
IMO it was a worse version of Halo 3 which itself was overhyped.

I will also throw in my own award, The Underdog category which would be for a game that you bought with low expectations that ended up being awesome.
Plants Vs Zombies is the winner for me in that category.

I haven't played many games this year and am not into gaming as much as some of you, but from what I have played:

Game of the Year: FIFA 10 (still need to cop it)

Crysis award (best graphics, duh): Uncharted 2

Best story told through a game: Uncharted (haven't played story of part 2 yet)

Rookie of the year (main character):

Publisher/Developer of the year (answer one, or both, you choose):

Worst game of 2009 (limited to games with moderate expectations): Fight Night Round 4. I expected so much more from it.

Game of the Year: Batman Arkham Asylum. I've wrote a few posts on here detailing why I like this game so much.

Best Gameplay: Wet. This game works very well. Seamless character interaction with enrvironment, a well thought out camera/pov, and easy to manage gameplay controls.

Crysis award (best graphics, duh): Uncharted 2. I've never played it for more than 15 minutes, but ... wow

Best story told through a game:

Rookie of the year (main character):

Publisher/Developer of the year
(answer one, or both, you choose): Valve

Worst game of 2009
(limited to games with moderate expectations) I'm with Al Thornton here. MW2 just doesn't deliver for me. Dual wielding is just silly.

Still undecided on the unanswered cats.

I've only had a PS3 for a few months now and I haven't touched my Wii in quite some time so I don't have much to judge on but...

Game of the Year: Uncharted 2

Best Gameplay: Uncharted 2. Everything about it was amazing.

Crysis award (best graphics, duh): Uncharted 2 looked and played incredible but I'm with the guy a few post back about Borderlands. As far as realistic stuff it's Uncharted but the art in Borderlands really blew me away.

Best story told through a game: Dragon Age: Origins. Just a really good story with plenty of side missions that still had much to do with the main plot and were still fun to explore.

Rookie of the year (main character):

Publisher/Developer of the year (answer one, or both, you choose): Naughty Dog

Worst game of 2009 (limited to games with moderate expectations): Haven't played enough new games to really judge this one.

Damn...people putting down Modern Warfare 2 as worst game? That's crazy. I understand if you didn't like it, but worst game of '09? That sounds a little rebelous against the hype just for the sake of being different. I have MW2 for game of the year. It's the most addictive shooter since Halo 3. No game of the year to you or didn't live up to your expectation, cool. Worst game? Exaggeration.

I think the moderate expectation thing was what made people put it down, perhaps change it to worst hype to quality ratio

I think a lot of people outside of the US don't like the game because they took out the regional search thing that was in WaW? I don't play CoD just going by what a mate of mine was tellin me...

No. As the poster below you mentioned, the worst game was restricted to ones that were expected to be at least good. Using that criteria, MW2 is certainly the worst of 2009 for me.

There's no depth to the special ops playlist. It's the same idea as the campaign, run around and shoot stuff as long as you're quick on the sticks. Nobody buys cod for the single player content anymore though...

Dual wielding... seriously? Instead of staying true to the format, iw garnishes the sequel with these tacky elements reminiscent of halo gameplay. The custom killstreaks move it even further from a tactical shooter. Perks are overdone. Except for a few with noticeably reduced recoil(unbalanced), the weapons don't feel unique.

The only thing I enjoyed about MW2 was the close quarters combat. It won't take me 5 minutes of wandering to find a fight. Frankly, I don't feel like treading through the other **** IW piled onto this game just for the quick combat. Bought the game on release, logged about 30 hours solely because of my fondness for the first MW, and haven't touched it since.

You have a lot of good points to justify it being worst game for you. I just find it so crazy because I actually didn't like any of the previous COD's and I love this one. Good post, my friend.

A few categories to start with

Game of the Year: Super Mario Bros Wii. (I give KH 358/2 for DS and Batman for PS3 huge thumbs up too).

Best Gameplay: Madden 2010. They finally have good collision detection.

Crysis award (best graphics, duh): Probably Uncharted 2

Best story told through a game: Probably Uncharted 2

Rookie of the year (main character): The main character fromTHE LOST AND THE DAMNED.

Publisher/Developer of the year

(limited to games with moderate expectations): I really HATED Tekken 6. It was like Tekken with the fun removed. KOF was another one. Here's a new game finally, and btw, we removed all your favorites.

feel free to add other categories.

Mine. And i really fail to see how COD was the worst, the category is not the biggest difference between expecations and reality, it's what was the worst of the big releases.

For me I felt like all the big releases did not disappoint. Way too many flaws in COD.
