Default Woodson wins Defensive MVP

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4818624

NEW YORK -- Green Bay cornerback Charles Woodson has won The Associated Press 2009 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award.

The versatile Woodson tied for the league lead with nine interceptions, returning three for touchdowns, and was a key to the Packers' turnaround on defense.

His role in Green Bay's performance -- second in the league in overall defense, first in interceptions (30), takeaways (40) and turnover margin (plus-24) -- earned Woodson 28 votes from a nationwide panel of 50 sportswriters and broadcasters who cover the NFL.

He doubled the number of votes for New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis in becoming the first Green Bay winner since Reggie White in 1998 and just the second Packer in the 36-year history of the award.

Turrible timing for the award.

I'd have liked Revis, but can't exactly complain

Rivas didn't get the same national exposure as Woodson. He wasn't being talked about until late in the season. Same reason why Chris Johnson didn't get many votes for MVP. Woodson and Manning were frontrunners and were imbedding in people's minds. It was their award to lose.

Good thing they didn't take that playoff game into consideration.

Woodson had 9 picks, 3 of them for TDs...and some of that was game saving...

Dallas would have beat the Packers had they not had Woodson...he won that game for them, he was a complete shut down and made the game winning INT...

Revis might be the better CB (very slightly)...but I feel that Woodson deserves this over him...

Revis maybe better in coverage but woodson is more of a complete player who does it all.

johnson didnt get many votes for mvp because he was playing on an 8-8 team.. had the titans had a winning record and made the playofss, he would have gotten more votes.

hmm...after watching a little peice on ESPN over this, I might change my mind here...

They pretty much made it look like Revis is the only reason that team even has a single win...

f*ck...oh well, Woodson was close enough I guess...just an award

man, Revis has single handedly shut out damn near every single big name WR in the NFL this year...(moss/andre/ocho/owens/ect)

also, the Packers have a better offense...

I am not sure that Woodson was more valueable to the Pack than Revis was to the Jets this year...

is this award like Offensive Player of the Year, where team record means nothing?...or no?...if it is like MVP, then Woodson does deserve it...if it is like OPOY then I am leaning toward Revis...
