Artist James Mylne was challenged by biro firm BiC to recreate a famous painting using just one of their Cristal pens.
The reproduction of The Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer took James nearly 90 hours to complete.
He says: "Like everyone, I doodled a lot with BiC pens at school. When I realised that I could create effective shading with one, I began producing proper artworks with them aged around 16. The point is finer than other pens, which means I can get more precision."
The page doesn't allow hotlinking, but there is a video worth checking out. I also found some other pieces he has done (sorry, some might be a little large and I'm not sure how to resize):
These are amazing, Bic's were always my favourite thing to start concept sketches with at uni, but these are incredible. i'd love to know how he made it so the pen didnt fck out half the time when you start a new line and it doesnt make any mark untill the ball had starts rolling.

Or how he didn't manage to get at least one giant ****ing clot with hair and shit stuck in it that you accidently proceed to smear across the page while shading...
this is amazing to me...it wasn't at first cause I assumed he used a projector or just traced over a photo, but that video was pretty crazy, and I can see there is a difference in the proportions...
bic pens are my favorite accessory in the world. i can't believe they don't make them white with black or blue caps anymore. these new solid gray and blue ones really kill my buzz

i can't think of many more frustrating and time-consuming ways to produce art, or i guess in his case, copies of finished pieces by other artists. etch-a-sketch, maybe?
i guess when you're a reproductionist, this could be a good way to go. i mean, you've got a niche with a bic. but as an art idea-man or innovater, this would be like suicide.
