Although many of you might have been disappointed to hear that this week's Mortal Kombat clip was only a movie pitch, this news is sure to please MK fans and fighting fans from here to Timbuktu.
Ahead of next week's trade show, E3, Warner Bros today announced the latest iteration in their Mortal Kombat franchise which they're calling the "most brutal" one to date - and judging by the trailer, that doesn't seem far off.
Being developed by NetherRealm Studios, who are headed up by famed MK creator Ed Boon, the title they're billing as just "Mortal Kombat" will not only feature up to 4 player tag-team, but will also include a two player "Co-Op Arcade Mode," as well of the traditional versus modes.
The 2D fighter not only welcomes back Fatalities - which are more gory than ever - and is driven by an all new graphics engine, but Warner are saying that it is the "deepest story mode of any fighting game" - although, they don't have much competition there.
"This game really is a response to what players have been demanding: mature presentation, reinvented 2D fighting mechanic and the best, most gruesome fatalities ever!" said Boon.
Mortal Kombat is due for release in 2011. Now, get over here watch the trailer.
Also, TRMK.org will be posting all the updates they find on this game. They're saying this game will have 26 characters+DLC characters to be added. This may be the best Mortal Kombat game ever. I'm looking forward to owning people with Sektor, Night Wolf, and hopefully Kabal.
One new previously unknown bit was revealed. There will be a system of respect points in the multiplayer mode of the game. It sounded that other players spectating your fight can reward you respect for doing well, etc. These points will work towards Achievements and Trophies along with other things, Ed said.
You have the wrong impression of the game, completely. The character movement looks fluid. It's darker than ever and definitely for the mature audience.
I'm very excited about this game and happy that the MK series is on the right path again. I haven't played the last few MK games, don't really play games as much anymore. This brings back memories though. MK II was my game.
This game will without a doubt be the best MK game since MK 3.
but I understand Gasolina
Remember when Sub Zero looked like this?
I miss that 'realistic' style.. eventhough the game looked great, they still have characters running around like it's carnival... and they're still superbuffed and all.
look at what they did to Liu Kang over the years..
