Rockets notes after losing to Spurs on Nov. 14
qHouston recorded its third sellout of the season with tonight's crowd of 18,289, which marks the first time the Rockets have sold out the first three home games of the regular season since 1998-99. Overall, tonight's attendance is the fourth largest to watch a game at Toyota Center.
qThe Rockets set a season best with 56 first-half points tonight, topping the 54 points Houston scored over the first 24 minutes vs. New York (11/10/06). In a tale of two halves, Houston then scored a season-low 28 points in the second half, including a nine-point fourth quarter. The last time the Rockets scored just nine fourth-quarter points was last season vs. Milwaukee (2/1/06). The fewest fourth-quarter points in team history is seven set by the 1991-92 Rockets at the L.A. Lakers (11/15/91).
qSan Antonio overcame a 19-point deficit to win 92-84 tonight. The largest deficit overcome by an opponent in a win over Houston all of last season was 18 points by the Timberwolves in an 82-79 decision over the Rockets vs. Minnesota (4/12/06).
qThe Spurs extended their overall winning steak over Houston to seven games, marking the longest active losing streak for the Rockets to one team. The next closest is a five-game losing stretch to the Detroit Pistons. Houston also snapped its overall four-game winning streak, as well as a two-game home winning streak.
qAfter outrebounding their opponent in six straight games, the Rockets were outrebounded, 51-36, by the Spurs. The two times Houston has been outrebounded this season have been by a double-digit margin (Utah 47, Hou. 36 on 11/1/06 at Utah). Tim Duncan helped San Antonio reach that mark with a team-high 15 boards. Duncan (3 blocks) also became just the second opposing player this season to record a multiple-block game against the Rockets (other: 2 by Cedric Simmons on 11/5/06 at NOK). The six overall blocks by the Spurs also set the opponent high against Houston this season.
qThe San Antonio reserves outscored the Rockets bench by a 41-16 margin, marking the second highest bench total for an opponent this season (high: 47 by the Grizzlies on 11/7/06 at Memphis).
qThe Rockets had a season-low nine turnovers tonight, but hold just a 2-2 record this season in games where they have fewer turnovers than their opponent.
qTracy McGrady scored 21 first-half points (9-14 FG, 3-4 3FG) tonight, marking the second best half this season. Yao Ming recorded 24 points in the opening half vs. Dallas (11/4/06).
qYao Ming scored 20 points tonight, snapping his steak of 30-point outings (36 points vs. Dallas, 11/4/06; 35 points vs. New York, 11/10/06; 34 points at Miami, 11/12/06). He did manage to set a career high for steals with four tonight, surpassing his previous high of three done three times (last on 3/29/06 vs. Seattle).
qJuwan Howard made his first start this season in place of an injured Chuck Hayes (left knee hyperextension and contusion), setting season highs in points (5) and rebounds (6).
qTonight's win marks the first time in Spurs franchise history that the team has won their first four road games to start a season since coming to the NBA in 1976-77.
