1. He's older than 32.
2. Does the deal involve a no trade clause?
3. Cubs got robbed by a guy who was waving a stick & a mango fruit
4. Phillies offerred 6yrs 98mil initially, so glad he didnt touch it but Phillies need another bat for Ryan.
It's a lot of money but its not really "overpaid". They have been saying he would get in the $14-$17 million range since he got to DC. He got the top end of his expected market value.

Hes had a 317 obp the last 2 years... Hes a bad fielder at a position with very little defensive value... This is definitely overpaid...

He's a 40/40 threat every year. Was in the top 10 for HR's, R's, SLG, and SB's last season. Plus, he lead all Major League LF's in Put Outs with 326.
I'm not arguing that you should feel he's worth $17 million. I'm simply pointing out that the market value for Soriano has been at $14-$17 million all year.
It's not the per year pay rate that's nutty, it's the length of the deal for a player of his age. Only way he's worth it when he's 40 is if he hooks up with BalCo.
