2010-11 Grizzlies preseason schedule
The Memphis Grizzlies announced today that they will host Spanish basketball club Caja Laboral in an exhibition game at FedExForum on Thursday, Oct. 14 as part of the Euroleague American Tour 2010. The matchup highlights the Grizzlies’ 2010 preseason schedule, which tips off at home against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at FedExForum.
The Grizzlies’ eight-game preseason slate also features two other home contests against the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday, Oct. 16 and New Orleans Hornets on Monday, Oct. 18. The club will hit the road to face the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday, Oct. 7 and the Hornets on Saturday, Oct. 9 before playing a neutral-site game against the Oklahoma City Thunder at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla. on Tuesday, Oct. 12. Memphis will close the preseason with a road game against the Detroit Pistons on Friday, Oct. 22.
The exhibition against Caja Laboral, from Grizzlies center Marc Gasol’s home country of Spain, will mark the first time the Grizzlies will play an international opponent at FedExForum or within the United States. Memphis’ most-recent international competition came in the 2007 preseason, when the team faced Unicaja Malaga and MMT Estudiantes in Malaga and Madrid, Spain, respectively.
Memphis’ Oct. 14 matchup with Caja Laboral will open the Euroleague American Tour 2010 as the Spanish club makes its North American debut. Former Euroleague champion CSKA Moscow of Russia will join Caja Laboral on the tour in the United States to face a combined four NBA opponents: the Grizzlies, Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and Cleveland Cavaliers.
The tour continues a tradition of friendly competition between NBA and Euroleague teams that dates back to 1978, when Maccabi Tel Aviv played the Washington Bullets in Tel Aviv, Israel.
