Default Mavs postgame notes after destroying the Wizards

With the win tonight, Dallas has won 21 straight regular season home games against Eastern Conference opponents. The Mavericks last loss to an Eastern Conference foe at home was on 2/8/05 vs. Chicago.

Dallas has now won seven straight. The Mavericks only had two stretches last season in which they won seven or more games.

Washington scored just 29 points in the second-half, two shy of tying the franchise low by a Maverick opponent. The Wizards scored 30 points in the first quarter, marking the first time Dallas allowed 30+ points in a first quarter this season (3-5 when allowing 30+ in the first last season). The Mavericks have held their last three opponents below 85 points after not allowing fewer than 96 the first eight games of the season. Dallas was 32-2 when allowing fewer than 90 points last season.

The Wizards shot just 35.5% tonight and 21.2% (7-33 FGs) in the second half. Dallas improves to 2-0 when holding its opponent below 40.0% shooting this season after going 17-0 last season

Dirk Nowitzki recorded game-highs of 30 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists tonight. He now has nine double-doubles in 11 games this season. Nowitzki did not record his ninth double-double until 25 games into last season. He has scored 30+ points three times this season (Mavs 3-0 mark).

Two Mavericks (Greg Buckner and Austin Croshere) came off the bench to score in double-figures. Dallas did not have a SINGLE reserve score in double-figures in any of the seven games prior. It is the first time this season the Mavericks had two players score 10+ points off the bench.

Gana Diop came off the bench to grab 13 rebounds. He had 10+ boards just once last season (16 vs. Denver on 11/15/05). Diop had just 11 total rebounds in the four games prior.

Dallas made a season-high 14 3-pointers on a season-high 34 attempts. It is the second time this season that the Mavericks have attempted 30+ 3-pointers and the fifth time they have attempted 20 or more. Last season, Dallas never had more than 26 3FGA in a single game and only attempted 20 or more seven times. The Mavericks had twice as many 3FGA as FTA tonight. It is the fifth time this season the Mavericks have had as many or more 3FGA as FTA after doing so just five times in all of 2005-06.

Dallas outrebounded Washington 57 to 43 tonight. The Mavericks have outrebounded each of their past three opponents by at least 10 boards (four times overall this season; 4-0 mark).

This 3 point shooting trend is starting to disturb me a little. I do hope they don't try that Friday against the Spurs.

After looking horrible in his first couple of appearances this year, Croshere is finally starting to look like the player they thought they were signing. It looks like he is finally just playing instead of waiting to react.

Again Devin gets two tick tack fouls in the first quarter and needs to come out. It would be nice to reverse this trend. In fact he, Damp and Diop were all on the bench in the first with two fouls. Part of why they were down at the end of the quarter. It was looking like a long game at that point.

Does ish write that himself?

Missed the game but I did get to see them hold them off in the final 5 minutes. We got the stops we needed and that to me is more encouraging than threes falling or reserves scoring. If we can repeat last year's defensive effort we have the weapons to get by on offense.
