Default Sources: T.J. Houshmandzadeh gone?

Quote:
Pending moves at the receiver position in Seattle will create reverbations around the NFL.

The Seattle Seahawks will cut ties with T.J. Houshmandzadeh by trading or releasing him, according to two league sources, and it will promote former Detroit first-round draft pick Mike Williams into its starting lineup for a Sept. 12 game against San Francisco.

The 32-year-old Houshmanzadeh caught 79 passes last season and will be a bargain for another team this season.

His Seahawks contract includes offset language that makes Seattle liable to pay Houshmanzadeh whatever his new team doesn't.

So if Houshmanzadeh were to sign a veteran minimum deal of $850,000, the Seahawks would be liable for the remaining $6.15 million balance.

Seattle signed Houshmanzadeh to a five-year, $40 million contract last offseason, and Seattle will wind up having paid him $15 million for his one season with the Seahawks.

Meanwhile, the 32-year-old Houshmanzadeh's departure means that Williams' story becomes one of the best and unlikeliest of the summer.

He has gone from a player that nobody wanted to a wide receiver that now will start with the Seahawks under his former college head coach Pete Carroll.

Williams will start likely opposite Deion Branch, with Deon Butler and Golden Tate as reserves.

And the Seahawks moves are not done. They also are likely to pursue quarterback Patrick Ramsey, whom New Orleans released Friday. If Seattle landed him, it likely would have to get rid of another quarterback.

Adam Schefter is ESPN's NFL Insider.

The option that allows him to sign for the vet minimum is very interesting when considering the places he could go.

Patrick Ramsey is such a scrub, why would they want him? They've been having great drafts I hope Carrol doesn't ruin that team.

Mike Williams has looked crazy good when I've watched him in the preseason. Definitely going to be a big fantasy pickup.

He wasn't a bad QB, but Spurrier ruined him. If you're in college, then Spurrier and Carrol wouldn't be bad to play for, but in the NFL it's almost a nightmare.

The Vikings, Jets, Chargers, and Cardinals have reportedly made offers.

I don't believe that the Cardinals, Chargers, and Jets have made offers. Especially after SD just traded for Patrick Crayton and have a lot of young guys with upside. TJ is a shell of his former self and a cancer, no way the Chargers allow him to set a bad example for their young players.

The Cardinals and Jets are both stacked at WR and he'd be a slot or #4 WR at best.

The Vikings did make a legitimate offer and I could see him in purple.

It's coming out now that the Vikings are a team that DIDNT make an offer for Housh. The originial source for the 4 teams was from the Cincy Enquirer and the Twin Cities paper is denying Vikings interest.

And why would the Jets look at TJ Houshmazilli? Seriously, what are they trying to do? Lol. TJ should go to the Titans and make them a legit contender. All they're missing is a true no. 1 WR that will allow Britt to be the 2nd receiver and give Vince Young some help outside.

TJ is far, far from being a true #1 at this point in time.

It's an interesting paradox how a lot of players are underrated during their primes and then once they finally get their due recognition they become grossly overrated.

No doubt. I think he would if WRs had the same equal chance to win ROY as QBs and RBs did.

Mike Williams is definitely 1st round talent and perhaps the most NFL-ready WR out of this rookie class, but b/c of his "off the field problems" (None of which were legal & most were blown out of proportion), he dropped to the 4th round and the Bucs possibly got the steal of the draft.

why aren't the Rams going after all these guys?

Avery was their #1, he is out for the year...they have NO ONE at WR...

they should have given Dallas a 6th for Crayton...

they should be talking to the Chargers about Vincent...

they should be all over Housh right now...

it is like they are content giving Sam no targets...
