Default Underrated/Forgotten Movies.

What are some movies you feel don't get much recognition, or are just underrated, and why?

I have two to start with. Warning: I'm not a "film nerd", like a decent number of our posters, so don't expect anything too deep and meaningful, whether in my post or even perhaps the movies themselves.

Universal Soldier - Despite having a couple direct to video "sequels" and two actual sequels with Van Damme (Dolph wasn't in one, and the events of it were ignored in the most recent movie, and I think the new one was direct to DVD as well), it never was really much of a franchise. However the first movie is pretty solid, for an early 90's (pre-Street Fighter) Van Damme. It has a fairly interesting story, Dolph Lundgren being out of his shit, and wearing a necklace made out of ears, and the hallmark of many Van Damme films in showing his ass.

Also, for a fairly cheap direct to DVD sequel, Universal Soldier: Regeneration is a pretty decent movie too, in context. And apparently they're making another one, that will be in 3D.

My second movie that I feel has been somewhat forgotten by time, is The Last Boy Scout. It's another fantastic early 90's action flick with Bruce Willis chainsmoking and making bad jokes. But this time, he's joined by Damon Wayans. I remember just thinking "What the ****" when I first saw this movie as a kid, when it opens with star L.A. Stallions (apparently the pro football team of LA) player Billy Cole doing some PCP (I think that's what it was?) and then shooting three opposing players on the field while running for a touchdown. And then saying "Aint life a *****?" after his touchdown, surrounded by police, and shooting himself in the head. Shortly after that, Bruce Willis finds out his wife is cheating on him with his best friend, and then his best friend is blown up outside his house. Bruce reacts in the only way he knows, chain-smoking, making jokes, and kicking some mother****ing ass.

This basically says it all. "I seem to have dropped my cigarette, may I have another?"

Feel free to share your own movies you feel have been underappreciated, or go watch Universal Soldier and The Last Boy Scout, and report back with your thoughts and feelings regarding them after.

I recently rewatched 2 movies listed above. Universal Soldier (watched it 2 nights ago) and The Gods Must Be Crazy (about 3 weeks ago).

I'd like to add a movie that just slipped under most peoples' radar: Triangle. It only came out about a year ago, but I don't know of much of anybody who have seen it, yet it is a very interesting movie.

I never heard of Triangle, but I just read about it and might check it out. It's cold as hell, Sunday, so I might as well catch up on some movies today.

Another movie I kinda feel gets underappreciated, even though it was a pretty "big" movie, was Escape From L.A., sure it's more of a campy almost remake than a sequel, but I always liked it and Snake Plissken. Yes it has Snake surfing with Peter Fonda, and Map to the Stars Eddie, and Bruce Campbell as "The Surgeon General of Beverly Hills" and Pam Grier playing a transsexual, and plenty of ridiculous shit, but it's a pretty fun movie nonetheless.
