Default Is hockey the most physically demanding sport?

I'm looking at it and it has all elements of atheticisms. No other sports demands so much high octane in a period of time. Every player on the ice is constantly moving. You need to have some sort of balance and stabilty to do all that on skates. There's also a phisical element. The only thing you really don't need is a vertical, although explosiveness counts when skating.

Looks to me that it may be the case

On a minute-for-minute basis, I'd say it's a very fair argument. But that's why hockey players get subbed out every couple minutes.

i once read that soccer and motocross were the most demanding sports... which kinda makes sense both are non stop for 45 minutes rest then go at it again for another 45 minutes non stop although motocross has no substitutions

I've read that Formula 1 racing is the most physically and mentally demanding sports, even though I hate car racing, the drivers are exceptionally fit both physically and mentally.

It's got to be rugby. It's physical and like soccer there are no brakes. Also a good indicator is avg age or career lifespan. Hockey players play to age 35+ , whereas rugby players probably retire at 30.

Every player is constantly moving but most of the time they are gliding are they not?

The most physically demanding sport is football or rugby but seeing as though football has the best athletes in the world imo I will go with football.

Football is the most physically demanding sport. On any given play, there is a chance that a player may become paralyzed.

I would put rugby next probably.

Overall, I'd say no. It's up there, but no IMO. I would rank football, rugby, and possibly soccer above hockey.

But each round is only a few minutes. You have other sports where the players get banged up regularly, have to run back and forth for extended periods of time, and are ready to retire no later than 35.

Most are picking soley based on physical contact and strength, but what about the cardio? In football or Rugby it's short bursts. Not only that, not every player is in motion. Also the co-ordination and balance. Hockey requires way more of that.

Exactly, it is so physically demanding that they needed to rest every few minutes. And there's a reason most boxers only fight no more than 5 times a year, it's too physically (and mentally) demanding.

Well, isn't there a super marathon or something that is like a 200 mile run? That would probably be the most physically demanding thing to do.
