the game is too easy for him. just 17 years old, he is a type of player that should be developing his game practicing with NBA players instead of playing against high school kids.

He was the MVP of the Jamal Crawford Pro Summer League in Seattle this past summer as well & works out with his aunt Joyce Walker (google if you don't know her name) on the regular. Once he hits the UW coach Romar will have him both mentally & physically ready to follow wherever his talents dictates ie 1 and done or stay and play.

As well, his skill level is only going to increase over time and by the end of this season he should be once again among the Nation's elite prep hoopsters (top 10) by those who make such lists- TW is currently ranked around 30th in the Nation since coming back from his surgery. G-D willing TW is going to be scary good in HS this season and beyond onto college. 206!

WROTEN PACES WASHINGTON
http://www.ihigh.com/clashoftheclass...cle_41308.html
Tony Wroten is back.

He proved that in Washington's 109-105 win over Oregon. The future Washington Husky scored a game high 42 points, grabbed nine rebounds and handed out seven assists in his MVP effort.

Wroten tore his ACL last fall. His July effort drew mixed reviews. On Saturday, Wroten's effort drew consensus reports: he was outstanding.

His jumper was falling from deep early in the game. Wroten scored 24 of his team's 48 first half points. His passing remains sharp, creative and on point.

With the injury now behind him, Wroten said he's trying to develop into an even more versatile player before he enrolls at the University of Washington.

"I'm feeling better than my old self," Wroten said after the game. "I think the injury was just a blessing in disguise. It made me get better. It made me fix some things that I needed to fix."

Consider the fixing under way.

FUTURE OF THE PAC-12 IS IN GOOD HANDS

The Pac-10 had a year on the hardwood that the league would like to forget as quickly as possible. This season may not be that much better. The 2011 recruiting class isn't shaping up to be fantastic, but with guys like Wroten and Oregon's Jabari Brown coming to the league, the star power is returning. "Oh yeah, we are going to make it better," Wroten said. "There is no doubt in my mind. We are going to make (the Pac-12) better than the Big East. The Pac-12 is going to be the spot."

Wroten picked Washington over Louisville. He will be joined by Andrew Andrews, who started for the Oregon team. The speedy point guard from Benson High School in Portland scored a modest 11 points in the game. His size, speed and swagger will fit right into the culture of the Washington backcourt.

Andrews will attend a prep school after graduating from Benson before enrolling at Washington.

Brett Kingma, a 6-foot-1 guard from the Seattle area, committed to the Oregon Ducks this fall. The quick triggered shooter hit back-to-back three-pointers to help Washington claim a lead that was never relinquished. Kingma finished with 20 points with 15 coming in the second half.

Kingma's future Oregon teammate Austin Kuemper was one of the nice revelations from the game. The future Duck scored 19 points in the low blocks and was the best scoring lost post option in the game. Kuemper's commitment to Oregon didn't make a big splash nationally. He doesn't project to be a star in Eugene but he does project to be a productive, and important, player for Dana Altman. Kuemper is big at 6-foot-9 and big enough to carry updwards of 250 pounds in college. He showed that he could step out and knock down the face up jumper all the while scoring at will in the low post. Defensively he is one of the top players at his position on the West Coast.

Davonte Lacey, a Washington State commitment, and Hikeem Stewart, a Washington commitment, also played in the game.

NOTES FROM THE NOTEPAD

• Future Kentucky Wildcat Kyle Wiltjer was the highest rated player in the game and he played like that at times. The 6-foot-10 big man wowed the crowd with his versatility. At times he was a precision passer from the high block and the wing. Other times, he was putting the ball on the floor and scoring on the attack. He knocked down a handful of jumpers. Defensively, he shifted over to guard Wroten. The full sampling of Wiltjer's work was on display.

• Anrio Adams was one of the few underclassmen in the game and he played like a senior. He was one of the reasons why Washington made a strong second half comeback for the win. Adams, a class of 2012 prospect, was great getting to the hole and crafty with his passes to Kingma and Wroten.

• Jordan Akwenuke, a 6-foot-6 senior from Portland Jesuit, missed the majority of the grassroots season because of an injury. Because of that, he could emerge as a nice must-see player for the mid-majors on the West Coast. He scored 17 points in the loss but revealed a good skill set and smarts on the court.

• Miles Gatewood, an athletic combo guard, scored 19 points for Oregon. He's a teammate of Kuemper at Westview High School in Portland. Gatewood is a long 6-foot-2 guard that played above the rim and knocked down a number of jumpers. He's worth a peek from the mid-level schools.

• Gary Bell should fit right in at Gonzaga. He's a strong guard that bullies defenders with the dribble drive.

• Keaton Jackson, a long and lanky 6-foot-9 post from Prairie High School in Vancouver, was a nice revelation. He's raw but big and athletic. Probably a senior to watch this high school season.

NEWS & NOTES

The Clash of the Classes event wasn't the only ticket in town on Saturday. The Oregon Elite 40 Showcase featured over 125 players, mostly from Oregon.

The best player and prospect at the event was big man Caleb Dressler. The 6-foot-9, 235-pound center from Vancouver (Wash.) Evergreen was absolutely dominant. Dressler, a class of 2012 prospect, dominated the paint and out toughed the competition. He scored with both hands around the basket, rebounded with a purpose and defended the low blocks like an experienced upperclassmen.

Princeton, Cal Poly, Portland and Portland State are showing the most interest to date, he said. Montana, Montana State, BYU, Washington, Washington State and Stanford are also interested.

According to his family, Stanford has been in to see him four times already. END

Mr. Telephone Man lol, thats a great nickname. He has a lot of swag. Finally going to bring some emotion back into the league, now that our Rasheed Wallaces, and Shaqs are slowly starting to retire.

Jesus Christ, will you hose yourself down already? You're acting like he's a surefire NBA All-Star. This is not John Wall or Derrick Rose, or even O.J. Mayo or Tyreke Evans. He's not a sure thing. He's a really good high school player- a guy that not one ranking service has in their top twenty- with a shot at making the NBA if he can stay healthy, which he hasn't done a great job of so far.

Glad that you like it. It's taken from New Edition's 1980s hit- Mr Telephone Man, because TW be hooking his teammates up with connections.

I can see a potential future marketing campaign at the UW and beyond for Mr Telephone Man- if TW runs with the nickname ala Karl Malone's Mail Man persona.

How soon we forget.

Tony was the #1 rated player in his class up until he got hurt playing football back in 2009.

As well some folks questioned his game after his ACL surgery (*same as Jamal Crawford's) but since then he has been rehabbing/working out extra hard, has played for Team USA U17 that won the 1st Gold Medal ever for U17 for Team USA (he was the best defensive player on the squad as per coaches), was named MVP of Jamal Crawford's Summer Pro League and was just named MVP of the Clash in Oregon scoring 42 points with relative ease and in a variety of ways (dunks, lay ups, mid range jumpers, nba 3s) not to even mention his court vision and laser like precision passing ability are still intact- only now they are better.

Also, TW skipped alot of the Summer HS basketball circuit in which these services gather alot of their information instead choosing to focus on rehabbing his body/game and TEAM USA commitment. He is currently ranked 30th by most recruiting services (politics smh) but that will change as the year progresses as he showed he was the best player by far on the court which included Kentucky recruit Kyle Wiltjer (ranked #21 by most recruiting services). TW is only going to get better- right now he's arguably the best on the west coast, as the season moves on.

Tony (who is most definitely a top 10 prospect for 2011 the upper half of the top 10) proved that he is currently a far better player than Wiltjer so expect the respect to come in the recruiting rankings next release. If Wiltjer is #21 TW has to be much higher than that- common sense.

TW's game is alot like JWall's (imo) and G-D willing TW will most likely be one & done in college but if not he stays and plays. Mr. Telephone Man will be coming to an NBA arena near you during the 2012-13 NBA season- get your tickets now.lol

Wrotens the truth.

Best HS player ever in seattle.
This includes Brandon Roy.

Everybody involved with the highschool AAU scene has seen this kid dominate games the same way Lebron and OJ and JWall did.

However, he aint ever gonna put up MVP stats or nothing. That just aint his game. So dont expect that.

NBA Prediction: Gary Payton.
You heard it hear first

If how highly-rated you were when you were a high school sophomore matters then Rich McBride would have been one of the best players in Illinois history. He was a year younger than Andre Igoudalia at Springfield Lanphier and until Iggy's senior year, he was considered McBride's sidekick.

And that isn't a rare exception. There are plenty of guys like that every year, who are considered the best in the nation in their class when they're young and don't turn out to be 5-star players when they're seniors.

A lot changes in two years, and I'm not saying Wroten can't be great. I don't know. But some kids mature early and the field catches up to them. As far as I can tell, Wroten seems to be one of those guys: not a sure-fire one and done, but a guy with a great chance to be a really good college player and possibly an NBA future.

Maybe I'm wrong. Neither of us will know for at least a couple of years. But at the moment, it seems batshit crazy to compare him to someone like Wall.

Quote:
Tony (who is most definitely a top 10 prospect for 2011 the upper half of the top 10)
Maybe, but not one person who does that for a living thinks he's even top 20. We'll see how his senior year goes on a hopefully healthy knee.

Hey, we all have our biases. I have a hard time believing there were 23 better players in the 2010 class than Jereme Richmond.

Quote:

The major services update their rankings several times over the summer, so the most recent ones would be pretty reflective of where they think guys currently stand. Nothing's happened between the most recent updates- which happened at the end of the summer- and now that would have changed them. I don't know if some local all-star game at a YMCA- seriously?- really means anything.

And the article YOU posted said that "Wiltjer was the highest rated player in the game and he played like that at times." So if that's accurate, even if it was just "at times," that doesn't sound like a convincing account that Wroten has proven he's a superior player to the point that it's common sense.

Common sense says not to salivate over 17-year old basketball players and have such little doubt about their futures, especially if they've already had major knee surgery.
