Wilson Chandler will not get a contract extension by tonight's deadline for 2007 first-round picks, Knicks president Donnie Walsh said yesterday.
As a result, Chandler will become a restricted free agent in July.
"We will wait until the year is over," Walsh told The Post. "It has nothing to do with Wilson. We want him. It has to do with the fact that there will be a new collective bargaining agreement and we are not sure what impact it would have."
Chandler has become an early candidate for sixth man of the year honors and could emerge as a potential pawn in a Carmelo Anthony deal. He has been the Knicks' best player since his demotion to the bench to start the season, averaging 21 points and 10 rebounds in three games. Chandler was the starting shooting guard in preseason but played passively.

The bargaining agreement? STFU. Why do you extend Gallinari, Randolph and Douglas if you are so concerned about the new rules?
His value will rise so you can trade the 2nd best Knick for a 3 point shooter with no defensive skills, no?

If they had just extended Wilson now they could trade the likes of Gallinari and Randolph + whatever in exchange for Carmelo while keeping Wilson.

Correct me if I'm wrong but we won't be able to sign Wilson if we sign Melo?

But seriously, I read an article that stated chandler may be inflating his own stats for a new contract ala Al Harrington.

I call bullshit on that.

They are basically doing a Lee/Nate situation.

See what he is worth, then match it if there are offers.

Actually, I'm excited that he's doing so well so his value goes up. Maybe, Denver will soften their stance and consider the Melo-to-NY deal. How crazy is it that when there's talks of Gallo and Randolph being moved for Melo, they get hurt all of a sudden. Peculiar.

The only reason he extends the other guys is because those extensions don't change the Salary Cap for the summer of 2011. He thinks it's a sure shot he's getting a max free agent.

This is bad...just bad.It's safe to say,either Wilson Chandler is not going to be a NY Knick next year or he'll be overpaid.We are victims or the same word Vitale rants about every draft day.Potential.Heres a guy 6'8" who came into the league with an NBA body,has the ability to play 3 positions,gets a little better every year but because he's not a tall lanky guy who jumps out of the gym or has a pg-like handle or shoots a bunch of 3's like a sg then he gets no love.It's why so many NBA teams either bomb or dont get immediate return on their investment in regards to the draft.IT's why you have the Patrick O'Bryants and even Brandon Wrights.
