Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan will be busy during NBA all-star weekend.
DeRozan was named to the sophomore team Tuesday for the Rookie Challenge. He's also compete in the slam dunk contest for the second consecutive year.
The squads for the Rookie Challenge, which pits rookies against second-year players, were announced Tuesday. They'll play Feb. 18 at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles ahead of the NBA all-star game.
DeRozan ranks second on the team averaging 15.4 points, and fifth among second-year players.
Ed got snubbed..didn't make it. However, Griffin was selected for the rookie team and if he plays in the all-star game, then hopefully Ed will get his spot.
I'm glad for him. And I hope he enjoys this weekend because to be brutally honest it'll probably be the last time he'll ever be there at least in competition.

Ed Davis was good enough to make the squad, I think it was probably just the fact that he missed so many games early on.

Happy for DeRozan, not only did he get snubbed from the Rookie Challenge last year, like all you have been saying, but also the dunk contest. He deserved the trophy, not Nate. But, it was a popularity contest last year, just because Nate was breaking a record. I mean what, the votes were like 51%-49%? If that was Nate's first year in the dunk contest, votes would be 85%-15% for DeMar. So, I'm happy too see him in the dunk contest again also, I think he will be one of the best players soon, well best scorers. Give him a few years, same with Bargnani, Raptors will be great in 2 or 3 years.

You don't think DD will ever be an All-Star? I think he has a chance at making it. With injuries to other players, fans voting like retards, and the fact that people love dunks I think he has a chance at making it atleast once.

There's a lot of great dunkers and exciting players who don't have any legit shot at making it. Look at guys like J-Rich, JR Smith, Rudy Gay, Andre Igoudala, etc... all guys who are significantly better than a guy like Derozan but have never even come close to getting that honor. I like DD but I honestly just don't think he has that "it" factor.

I dunno. DeMar has a hell of a work ethic.. and if he keeps at it.. I believe he will start hitting 3 point shots.. which will make him really hard to guard. I can see him being an all-star a couple times.. At least more then Bargnani..

I'm just trying to remember the forwards in the east other than Lebron and the big names. IDK, obviously I don't know for sure what is gonna happen, I just feel he can become a very good player, and possible all-star. Lot's of people were saying Kevin Durant didn't have that "it" factor... But we can agree to disagree and see what happens.

First thing I have to say about that is that DeMar isn't a forward, he's a guard. So we can therefore scratch off a starting spot over at least the next 5-6 years as he will always have guys like Rose, Rondo, Wade, Joe Johnson, John Wall, etc... to compete with. So therefore, for him to make it on the team i'm sure we can all conclude that it would probably have to be by coaches vote. Because the starting lineup is a popularity contest, and despite being on the ballot this year and putting up pretty good numbers he wasn't even among the top 10 in voting for his position, getting beaten out by even the likes of Darren Collison and Gilbert Arenas.
And I know the coaches votes aren't an exact science or anything but I think at least over the last decade we've seen that for the most part a guy who gets voted as an all-star by the coaches is either:
A. A guy putting up good numbers on a great team.
B. Putting up great numbers on a bad team
or
C. Putting up great numbers on an average team.
So, I'm not gonna say it's impossible for him to ever make an all-star team but as long as he's a Raptor, he would need to fall into the B or C category and put up terrific numbers to be given that kind of consideration despite being on a poor team. So even though I wouldn't call it impossible, I also wouldn't bet on it.

Derozan can atleast be called a tweener. And I would rather see him get into a sf game rather than a sg. Same with Iggy. He might not have played SF for us but personally I think it would suit his game better.
