What will Melo add to the team (Pro and Con)

So as a basketball player he is an elite scorer but like in the all star game if he doesnt score what else would he add on the court?

Pro's
*4th Quarter is his time ELITE SCORER!
*Quite obvious would be, you wont be able to double team Melo and Stat at the same time.... should open up things for each other
*Good shooting role players can get open looks...

Con's
*He hasnt really made any other players on the team better. Ball movement would be limited where he has to see how to attack.
*If he doesnt score he doesnt really contribute much outside of rebounding which has improved.
*He doesnt play defense. (unless you count a great offense is a good defense except against other elite players! Not really good for playoff time)
*Not a fastbreak kind of guy more half court fella.

What other pro's and con's?

Pros.....
1)Second best SF in the League, LeBron #1

2)Best rebounding SF

3)Has a complete offensive game, can play open and half court, back to the basket, pull up, face up, and excellent mid range shooter, has 3 pt range

4)One of the hardest player to guard, cannot be shut down 1 on 1

5)One of the best SF's in drawing fouls and free throw attempts and %.

6)Good passer for a SF

Cons......

Other than leadership I really don't think he has any.

Pro's:

Possibly the most capable scorer in the league. Will score in clutch moments.
Third to fourth best SF in the league, can hang with the other guys scoring-wise.
Good rebounder.

Con's:

Poor defender.
Takes 20+ shots a game. Not much of a passer.
Not very bright. Make's boneheaded plays in big moments.
Hasn't displayed much ability to lead.
Huge contract could hamstring the team with a new CBA.

Overall:

Good for a few more wins over the course of a full season. Won't get them past the first round this year; they''ll need some big time moves to do so in the future.

He's a good scorer, basically. That's the key.

Pros:
-Opens up the vision of our role players meaning they can get better looks
-Amare & Carmelo one or the other would be doubled leaving someone open
-Elite scorer
-Takes off pressure from Amare he can how actually play defense & worry about scoring less
-Gives our team someone to look to in crunch time a legit first & second option in Amare & Carmelo

Cons:
-Little defense

Pros:
He's not an over-the-hill used to be player, like we've acquried in the past decade.

When we can't seem to throw the ball in the ocean some nights, he will solve that problem.

If MD is smart ( ) he would keep both of them on the floor, but when sub's come in, keep one of them on the floor while the other rests.

Melo will make it easier for STAT as he will also command double teams.

His rebounding avg is OK with me, and I'm sure his defense will pick up here. Amar'e upped his a little since being here.

He's built for the playoffs and that is what we'll be needing. I'm hoping he will be vocal like Amar'e is being with our young guys.


Cons:
Him coming will strip us down, but I'm sure we'll take care of that after all this crap is over with.

If he doesn't want to commit to defense, it would just make it alot harder for us.

You cannot say he's a poor defender.He's very unmotivated and lazy at times.He's not a poor defender though.Not at all.In bg games,he clamps down. Especially in the playoffs.He put the clamps on Kobe for nearly an entire series.Besides,I don't even count that as a CON unless Fields gets traded instead of Gallo.

The only CON I see is like Knickscity said.The leadership.That being said,I always expected Amare to be the emotional leader on the team anyway.I think that stuff gets overblown.Its why certain veterans get to stay in the league longer than they should.Sure it's great to have a guy who takes charge in a locker room but at the end of the day,cohesive talent is the biggest factor in winning basketball.

I think the biggest PRO that hasn't been mentioned surprisingly is that he will almost undoubtedly lure Chris Paul or Deron Williams here next year!!!

- perfect fit for what Coach Pringles wants from his "4" or "2"
- adds legitimacy to what Knicks are doing

Con
- buys Coach Pringles at least two more years with the team
- makes the Knicks a more popular ticket screwing up my StubHub purchases
- questionable motor during the regular season

we just need melo to put the ball in the bucket and a better rate than our last 2 sf's
