When Paul Pierce nailed a three pointer to open the scoring against the Bucks on November 25 in Milwaukee, he passed Bill Russell for seventh all-time in Celtics history in points. After the Knicks game the previous night Pierce was just one point shy of passing Russell with 14,219 career points. With the 34 points that he scored against the Bucks, Pierce now has 14,674 career points…Here is where Pierce fits in to the top 10 scorers all-time in Celtics history.
Paul Pierce is firmly cementing himself in the Celtics history books this season pushing himself among the top ten statistical leaders in Celtics history…Pierce is ranked first in Celtics history in both three point field goals made (1,030) and attempted (2,874); he also ranks eighth in three point field goal percentage with a mark of .358…Pierce is also now third in Celtics history in free throws made with 4,004 and fourth in free throws attempted (5,069)…Pierce has been on the floor 10th most in C’s history, stepping onto the floor for 23,559 minutes…Pierce is also just 17 assists away from Danny Ainge for a tie for 10th most assists (2,422)…Pierce has passed Tommy Heinsohn this season for 10th most field goals made in C’s history with 4,820…Pierce also has the second highest scoring average per game with 23.6 ppg, just 0.7 percentage points behind Larry Bird who holds the record with 24.3 ppg.
During the current five game losing streak, the C’s have lost four of the five games by five or fewer points…The Celtics have lost seven games this season by less than five points, the most in the NBA…The Celtics average a margin of loss of 3.1 points in those seven games.
Gerald Green is having quite the season from long distance as he is currently fifth in the NBA in three point field goal percentage with a mark of .515...No Celtic in franchise history has ever led the NBA in three point field goal percentage…Larry Bird and Chris Ford have come the closest…Bird finished second for the 1984-85 season when he had a mark of .427 and in 1979-80, the first year that the three point field goal was introduced, Ford and Bird finished two and three with marks of .427 and .406 respectively.
