Dwayne De Rosario was traded to New York Red Bulls for Tony Tchani, Danleigh Borman and a first round pick in 2012 SuperDraft.
And this is not an April Fools' Day joke.
Well, it's sad to see one of the best players TFC ever have to go, but his age and his contract demand could hurt the team in the long run. TFC will rely on the youth movement for the next 2-3 years. NYRB, on the other hand, now has one of the best starting lineup in the league and looks even stronger as a title contender.
I was at TFC vs Chivas USA game last Saturday. Great weather, good crowd. Looked very close to 20,000 today. 1-1, the final.
It is the first game for Tchani and Borman, who were traded to here for DeRo. Tchani didn't play that well but worked hard to get and control the ball. Borman had some bad passes but handled his defensive jobs pretty well.
Stevanovic, Martina and Alan Gordon are today's starting forward in Winter's 4-3-3. Stevanovic had a good first MLS lesson with a bunch of hits and was later subbed out. Martina was awesome as a right wing forward. Gordon simply did his target man job and got himself a goal in the process.
The second half was almost a snooze fest though until Maicon Santos missed a wide-open goal. Can't blame him though since there was a Chivas defender pressured him right to the ankle.
At the game yesterday. It was colder than I thought but the game was still pretty good. Posts and crossbars basically saved TFC. Galaxy created much more attacks than TFC but only get a tie. Chad Barett got a clean shot pass Stefan Frei only to hit the crossbar. Becks also bent a nice freekick only to hit the post.
TFC had a bunch of chances also. That small Ecuadorian Juao Plata somehow got a diving header off a last-minutes corner kick but Ricketts saved it.
Very unusual situation for a soccer game tonight. Because of heavy rain, thunder and lightning, the Canadian Champions League final game #2 between TFC and Whitecaps at BMO Field had to be abandoned and is rescheduled for Thursday morning instead.
The good thing for TFC is that the game stopped at about 60 minutes, and Whitecaps was leading 1-0. The new game will be reset.
