as depressing as it is, it seems pretty much set in stone that we are most likely to get that 5th pick... So the question is, who do you think will fall to us at that point and who should we pick?
Irving, Williams, Sullinger and Kanter seem like the top 4 picks in most mock drafts. So is the consensus that if and when it comes to that, we should take Barnes?
Yay, we're going on another one of those ridiculous late-season win streaks. Seems like no team ups its game more when there is nothing to play for, when in fact winning hurts the team, than the Raps.
I actually had a dream a while back with the draft in it for some reason, and dreamt we'd have the fifth pick and we picked Kanter.
I'd like Irving if we win the lottery, or Barnes if we don't. Kanter would do though. I'd also like to see if we could get another late lottery pick so we could get Jimmer Fredette.
I know right? We always seem to kick it up a notch at the end of the season when the wins don't matter. It seems like a combination of us caring too much and playoff teams not caring enough. Take a team like NJ who is CLEARLY tanking by holding out D-Will and other non-playoff teams who are playing their bench guys intentionally. And then look at us giving big minutes to the guys that give us the greatest shot to win the game and have the least to develop....

it shows you that there is something seriously wrong with this management and the personal on this team. There is no long term goals for this team and the only thing we care about is things in the short term. A wise GM and coach would realize that securing a high draft pick right now is the best thing for the franchise along with giving enough playing time to the future/young players.
Just sick and tired of this team and its constant nonsense. we need to tank and we need to tank now!!
Well now that the replies in this thread outnumber the other...
We can still get lucky with the lottery, last year, if I recall correctly, Washington was slated at #5 as well (maybe 4).
Without getting off-topic and blasting the Raptors coaching/management/ownership, I'll just list my favorite prospects.
Clearly, Irving is only available if we win the lottery. I don't see how any team outside of Washington (and perhaps Sacramento) doesn't take him. If Washington wins the lottery, they will pick Sullinger (McGee/Sullinger front court ) and the #2 team gets Irving.
If we have the #2 pick and Irving is gone? I have no idea what the game plan should be. You can go big with Kanter (although I HATE international players ), but he is still a question mark as he has sat out this entire year.
Harrison Barnes is looking good, but I haven't really seen much in terms of slashing/athleticism. If DeRozan gets that part of his game perfected, having Barnes as the shooter beside him would be awesome.
Derrick Williams, Sullinger.. while I'm sure they will be great, I'm really confident in Ed Davis and would like to see him grow.
A darkhorse pick would be Brandon Knight. He's a better shooter than Irving and just as athletic, but he's less of a traditional point guard. He's been great towards the latter part of the year.
There are still lots of options, and still a chance we get the #1 or #2 pick.

Good post. I agree that Knight's looking like the darkhorse. The main knock on him is that he doesn't run a team well and his assist numbers are low but a lot of people say that has to to do with the Kentucky system.
Walker had another decent game as well yesterday.
The only issue with Kanter is that I've seen him listed anywhere from 6-9 to 6-11. If he's closer to 6-9, his value drops big time for me. If he turns out to be 6-11, I'd have no problem with picking him. The next step would be to get rid of Bargs.
We should also look at possibly trading down if all the top guys are picked. I just hope we don't let Jersey get passed us now.
So in other words, you're suggesting we keep the majority of the 20-49 team from this year, add Barnes through the draft, trade for a backup point and sign a Center and then we're suddenly a championship contender? Sometimes I think you live in dream world, honestly.

If Reggie didn't get injured we would be 7th seed in the East.
Add a SF with superstar potential, a defensive anchor, one year of development for Demar and Bargs, and we're playoffs bound for the years to come.
Right now 29-39 is a playoff seed in the East, and still we find ourselves 9.5 games out of a spot. I doubt a role player like Reggie Evans who should be coming off the bench would make that big of a difference. We are 15 games out of a 7th seed and you are really claiming that's all because of Reggie Evans as if he's prime Tim Duncan or something. I understanding being a glass half full type of fan, but this is ridiculous.

The projected record with Reggie for all games is 28 wins, which means tied for 8th place.
Considering that after a slow start and a losing streak, before his injury we were on a roll (4-1 his last 5 games) I don't think it's ridicolous at all to think that we would be around 34-35 wins with him in the lineup.

dont bother trying to make sense out of some people on this forum. Just let it go.

Thanks alot Doko, I just broke my nose facepalming from that comment right there.
A borderline NBA player being the reason between the lotter and the 7th seed. Holy Jebus.
