Default Knicks get rights to Josh Harrellson (2011 NBA Draft pick) from Hornets

The New York Knickerbockers have acquired the draft rights to forward Josh Harrellson from New Orleans for cash considerations. The St. Charles, MO-native was selected in the second round (45th overall) of the 2011 NBA Draft by the Hornets.

Harrellson, 6-10, 275-pounds, averaged 7.6 points and 4.7 rebounds in 38 games during his senior season. He led the Southeastern Conference in field goal percentage (.611) and ranked second in rebounding (8.7).

If he averaged 4.7 rebounds, how could he be ranked second in the SEC in rebounding with 8.7?

This is what they say he averaged......

Senior Season Stats

2010-11 (Senior): Appeared in 38 games (all starts), averaging 7.6 points and 8.7 rebounds in 28.5 minutes

Shot 61.1 percent from the field (127-of-208)

Named to the East Region All-Tournament Team

Averaged 13 points and eight rebounds in the NCAA Tournament Recorded eight double-doubles for the season (including postseason play).

He played well, I don't know where that 4.7 is coming from, unless that's his entire college average.

Duded barely played before his senior year.

He barely played because he was really fat.More so than he is now. This pick really burned me up inside. It was a cop out and a lame way to say "see we got a tough guy....we're gonna play defense." Truth of the matter is however that this guy will be lucky if he makes the team.

I don't know, I won't write him off just yet.

While I won't dare call him an answer at center, 10-12 minutes of hard play shouldn't overwhelm the guy.

Ok so we would all agree Jared Jeffries is one of,if not the worst, "center" in the league.Turiaf switches back and forth with him in the starting lineup. Why get a guy who,at this point, doesn't project to start over those guys? Essentially we got a big man, which we needed, and we STILL didnt fill the need.End of the day,we got a big man and STILL need a big man.

Hes there to be the back up Center. Jerome Jordan will be the starting center next season.

Look how quickly the knicks developed mozgov. In the beginning of the year he couldnt even beat out turiaff. By mid January he was starting. It won't take much to replace turiaf as the starting center.

Harrelson will be a fine role player for the knicks. He has a decent outside game and is willing to give great effort and do the dirty work. He improved tremendously this year at kentucky when he got lots of playing time. He also was coached by calipari who does a good job preparing players for the nba and also learned a lot from Kanter playing against him in practice. He was the most nba ready Center left in the draft and the knicks took him. While someone like tyler has much more upside, harrelson will be able to come in and give better minutes. I just don't get why you are so bitter about the pick.

The Harrellson pick was a 2nd round pick.. Stop with the overrated/busts or any other tag, it's a second round pick!! Last year everyone bashed the Fields pick although he turned out to be a fantastic pick.

Most 2nd rounders don't get any PT, We got a big with size.

I know you are anxious, and I am as well.

We will have some big men on the team next, I assure you that.

And believe me when I say this........ D'antoni is gonna play them.

Whether it's Jerome Jordan, Turiaf, Harrelson, right now is our center rotation, with hopefully someone like Kwame Brown, or someone similar even if not a center, like Reggie Evans for a one year deal.

I vote for Reggie Evans as well along with Rick Jackson from Syracuse. He did not get drafted and is a free agent...
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Rick-Jackson-5779/

While we are at it, let's take a look at Julyan Stone; a 6'6" true PG who we brought in for a look.
http://www.ridiculousupside.com/2011...nba-draft-2011

Better defenders, rebounders and athletes on the bench is what we need...
At the center position, if we can get the following over a full game:
Turiaf - 22 mpg
Jerome Jordan - 15 mpg
Jorts - 6 mpg
STAT - 5 mpg

I think he'll be great on the boards for us coming off the bench or even starting. The Knicks know something we don't if they waited that long to purchase his rights.

Yea but you don't go get a guy with the mindset that he's going to play garbage time, especially when your starting big man doesn't even belong in the NBA.You take a shot and if he plays to his potential, you're happy.I just don't see the potential nor do I see where anyone else may have found some.If I can't honestly differentiate the difference between you and Shelden Williams, you're pretty bad.N yea it's a 2nd round pick but there were alotta guys that slipped to the 2nd round.Charles Jenkins,Keith Benson,Jeremy Tyler,Trey Thompkins,Vernon Macklin,DeAndre Liggans,Josh Selby ALL went in the second round. For the mere fact that Melo wanted him,Selby shoulda been picked over this guy.We were considering him @ 17,he slips to the 2nd round AND your best player wants him and you take Harrelson over him?Im not a Selby fan at all but c'mon.

But you know what...F it.I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. He's a tough guy and a hard worker and hopefully he'll change the culture of the way we approach things.I just hope we make wise decisions in Free Agency
