Jerry Buss is the reason the Lakers are profitable. He has 10 NBA championships and has donated millions of dollars to the community including 7.5 million to USC. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Buss
Jim Buss (CEO of LakerLand) is somewhat reclusive. His first bowel movement was to hire Brown as coach without even talking to Kobe. I am sure Laker fans are holding their breath, wondering what this "born into riches" daddys boy is going to do.
Re: Lakers laying off lots of employees during the NBA lockout
This is a business and the Lakers have always approached the Lakers asa business. This is why they are the most successful team in the NBA. It does suck for the individual employees but when looking it from the Lakers side and the fact that there might not be any season, it makes sense to me. This is nothing personal, its just business.

I really dont know too much about this story but I will say the people that lost their jobs? Most have to be replaced. So my guess is L.A wasnt making any money so they couldnt pay their employees. Therefore, you are layed off until the lockout is ended then rehired. Its not like the Lakers are hiring cheap labor outside of America to replace them or machines/computers are taking their jobs. No money is being made, so you cant pay employees just because. Maybe some can now go out and get a temporary job in the meantime to make money while the lockout takes place.
I dont know the story, just thought this stuff up because it made sense.

Because normally the Lakers would be raking in millions during the off-season.
Re: Lakers laying off lots of employees during the NBA lockout
This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone...the only thing I'm surprised about is how other teams can afford to keep staff on their pay roll when no money is being made?
