Default Sonics Weekly: Dec. 26, on upcoming opponents, more

This Week’s Opponents
N.O./Okla. City: The Sonics and Hornets will meet for the second time at KeyArena, with a pair of road dates scheduled for after the All-Star break. Seattle earned a 94-74 win in the first meeting, setting a season-high for margin of victory. Chris Wilcox led the way for the Sonics, posting team-highs of 19 points and eight rebounds. Seattle leads 25-15 in the all-time series, including a 15-6 mark at home.

Denver: Seattle and Denver have split the season series 2-2 in each of the last three seasons and are 12-12 against each other over the last six campaigns. Ray Allen averaged 28.5 ppg against the Nuggets last season while shooting a blistering 51.1 percent from behind the arc. In the final meeting, a 109-98 Sonics win on April 19, Allen set a new NBA record for three-pointers-made in a season with 269.

Minnesota: The Sonics and Wolves split the four-game set last year with the home team winning all four games. Allen paced the Sonics in scoring in all four contests, including 38 in a 107-96 Sonics win on 3/10/06. Beginning on 3/29/91, Seattle rattled off 26 consecutive wins against Minnesota which remains the team’s longest streak against any opponent. The Sonics lead 46-21 all-time.

Boston: The Sonics swept the Celtics last season for the first time since the 1996-97 campaign, including a 113-100 win in Boston on 11/16/05 that snapped a six-game road losing streak in the all-time series. The Celtics have had success in Seattle, posting wins on 48.1 percent (26-28) of their trips here. Only Philadelphia (28-28, .500) has been more successful on the Sonics’ home floor. Boston owns a 60-49 lead all-time.

Allen to Reach Scoring Milestone
Ray Allen enters tonight’s game with 15,983 career points and is on the verge of becoming the 77th player in NBA history to reach the 16,000-point plateau. Only seven active players (Shaquille O’Neal, Gary Payton, Clifford Robinson, Allen Iverson, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant and Chris Webber) have more career points than Allen.
