Default Ed Stefanski in Talks to Become New Raptors GM

Philadelphia 76ers executive Ed Stefanski is engaged in advanced talks with the Toronto Raptors to take over as general manager, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Stefanski would move into the franchise’s No. 2 basketball executive job under president Bryan Colangelo. Stefanski, who is in the final year of his deal in Philadelphia and has the GM title, knows he probably won’t be retained after his contract expires, sources said. Stefanski lost his spot as the Sixers’ top decision maker a year ago to Rod Thorn, and now the franchise is waiting for the NBA to approve the team’s sale to a New York investment group.

Unless Bryan Colangelo comes out and says "I will have a very tiny role in the roster decisions of the Toronto Raptors.", this is meaningless to me. With Triano out and a new coach signed to a multi-year deal, the Raptors are looking for their next scapegoat.

Colangelo is subscribing to the Brian Burke form of management by bringing in expensive assistants.

Colangelo is hit our miss with his deals/trades/drafts. Maybe if a guy like Stefanski is around we will see fewer catastrophes like bargs.

Talks between the Raptors and Ed Stefanski stalled after some progress had been made, sources said on Friday.

Two sources with knowledge of the talks used the term “hit a snag” to describe the state of the discussions.

Sources said the development has caused Jeff Bower to re-emerge in Toronto's general manager search.

i bet it has something to do with how much impact and power BC will have over the new GM. Most GM's do not like others blocking and interfering in their decision making. Ed Stefanski probably does not want to be BC's biatch.

Whatever happened with Dennis Lindsey? He was the one I wanted if anything because he was part of the Spurs front office.

Yeah, same. Who knows though. As far as I know there hasn't been a report to say whether or not he was out of the running, but there hasn't been any news on him at all.
