Default Brady/Eli - Winner Of Super Bowl 46, The Greatest Quarterback Season Ever? Possibly

To have the "greatest quarterback season ever", you have to have some combination of huge stats, personal awards, personal records, and high level team success, all in the same season.

This is a list of all quarterbacks in NFL history that have thrown for at least 5,000 yards in a single season (regular season + playoffs). That was the statistical cutoff that I chose. Notable team accomplishments and individual awards and records are listed if they apply to that season.

1. Drew Brees 2011 - 6,404 total yards passing (single season yards passing record [5,476])

2. Dan Marino 1984 - 6,085 total yards passing (league MVP, Super Bowl runner-up)

3. Eli Manning 2011 - 5,856 total yards passing (not including Super Bowl 46)

4. Tom Brady 2011 - 5,837 total yards passing (not including Super Bowl 46)

5. Kurt Warner 2008 - 5,730 total yards passing (Super Bowl runner-up)

6. Kurt Warner 2001 - 5,623 total yards passing (league MVP, Super Bowl runner-up)

7. Tom Brady 2007 - 5,543 total yards passing (undefeated 16-0 regular season, single season touchdown record [50], league MVP, Super Bowl runner-up)

8. Rich Gannon 2002 - 5,530 total yards passing (league MVP, Super Bowl runner-up)

9. Peyton Manning 2009 - 5,456 total yards passing (league MVP, Super Bowl runner-up)

10. Peyton Manning 2006 - 5,431 total yards passing

11. Dan Fouts 1981 - 5,420 total yards passing

12. Matt Stafford 2011 - 5,418 total yards passing

13. Kurt Warner 1999 - 5,416 total yards passing (league MVP, Super Bowl champion, Super Bowl MVP)

14. Dan Fouts 1980 - 5,365 total yards passing

15. Daunte Culpepper 2004 - 5,317 total yards passing

16. Warren Moon 1991 - 5,286 total yards passing

17. Peyton Manning 2004 - 5,253 total yards passing (league MVP)

18. Brett Favre 1995 - 5,218 total yards passing (league MVP)

19. Peyton Manning 2003 - 5,185 total yards passing (league MVP)

20. Drew Brees 2009 - 5,120 total yards passing (Super Bowl champion, Super Bowl MVP)

21. Drew Brees 2008 - 5,069 total yards passing

22. Jim "Chris" Everett 1989 - 5,047 total yards passing

23. Mark Brunell 1996 - 5,041 total yards passing

24. Drew Brees 2010 - 5,024 total yards passing

25. Aaron Rodgers 2010 - 5,016 total yards passing (Super Bowl champion, Super Bowl MVP)

26. Drew Brees 2006 - 5,015 total yards passing

It seems that if Brady or Eli wins Super Bowl 46 and and gets the Super Bowl 46 MVP, that their 2011 season would legitimately be in "the greatest quarterback season ever" discussion.

Funny, considering all the ESPN hype during the same season that claimed it was Rodgers and Brees that were having "the best seasons ever".

Looking at it like this, Kurt Warner's 1999 season was unbelievable. Also, Brady would have clearly clinched the "greatest season ever for a QB", if he would have won the Super Bowl against the Giants. Even with losing it though, it still looks like the best or 2nd best (Warner '99) season ever.

No room on the Brady bandwagon. Please get off of it, you're making the other passengers uncomfortable.

The Giants won 9 regular season games, and Eli's stats are nowhere near "greatest season ever" despite how well he played.
