Default Jerry West: "The lakers will be very dangerous in the playoffs"

Quote:
Jerry West says Lakers will be 'dangerous' in playoffs

Mike Bresnahan and Mark Medina
February 9, 2012

Reporting from Boston
"Jerry West is plenty busy these days as a consultant for the Golden State Warriors and executive director of the Northern Trust Open, which tees off next Thursday at Riviera Country Club.
But he has also kept an eye on the Lakers, the franchise for which he became a Hall of Fame player and, later, general manager.

West conceded that many of the Lakers' performances had been "spotty" and "looked like exhibition games," but insisted there were better days ahead.

"The Lakers will be very dangerous in the playoffs," he said in a phone interview Thursday with The Times. "They need rest between games. The way they're playing now on the road, they haven't had the kind of success they need. But they're still very capable."

West was noncommittal when asked whether the Lakers should make a trade before the March 15 deadline.

"Knowing the Lakers, Mitch [Kupchak] and Jerry Buss and their desire to win," West said, "they'll pretty much look at anything that will help them win."

The question remains whether the Lakers can improve their bench, which West said was "usually what decides playoff series."

That's bad news for the Lakers, who haven't had much scoring punch from their reserves.

Even if the Lakers don't make moves, West stayed optimistic about their championship chances.

"Any time you have Kobe Bryant on your team, you're dangerous," West said. "They have two big guys who can dominate the paint and score around the paint.

"I would never, ever discount them. They're a very good team, regardless of what people might say."

Always nice to have that expert opinion. I do believe lakers are still a very good team but just have not quite "clicked" yet. They'll figure it out.

Yeah, I get what West is saying, but for it to happen, I think almost everything needs to be right. The core players being healthy and fresh, finding their shooting rhythm etc.
I remember Tommy Lasorda a few years back kept saying the Dodgers "have the ability" to win it all.

Lets put it this way, would you have expected last year's mavs going all the way before the playoffs started?

Screw that bull.......if they don't make some trades they wont win squat.....any D-League PG can kick their @ss.

I read into West that he's sure they will make the necessary deals.

Yeah, Lakers are still capable of winning a championship,... however, they need to make changes on their bench...It's not solid enough to consider the Lakers as top tier...
We don't need a NEW PG FOR NOW. It's not really the main priority, as long as D-Fish can still play, we're good... but for now, just focus on the bench.

p.s. LO isnt feelin Dallas, why not make a move?

Is it really Mitch and Jerry Buss? Because Jerry already said on the radio that it's Mitch and Jimmy Buss running the show.

still haven't figured it out yet.....

I hate to disagree with Mr. Logo, but this team is exhausted and is making
dumb mistakes, stupid turnovers, and very few hustle plays.....

Losing to WAS and almost to NOH with 4 missing starters says a lot.
