BC has stated that he is looking to take the team to the next level through trades and FA signings as well as a potential high draft pick.
If the goal is to win as much as possible, what FA's would you want the raps to chase (within reason - no DWill)?

George Hill (assuming we let Bayless walk - Can play PG or SG, defends, and has championship experience)
Nic Batum (Still hasn't reached his full potential, and is already a very good player)
Ersan Ilyasova (if he can play major minutes at SF - excellent nose for the ball, can knock down the 3, and shoots a pretty good FG% if I remember correctly)
We wouldn't need both Batum or Ilyasova, and with 11 million in cap space, I think we could easily reach a deal with 2 of the 3 (although Hill and Batum are restricted)
A lineup of:
Jose/ Hill
DD/ #8
Ilyasova or Batum/ JJ / Kleiza
Bargs / Davis
Val / Amir
That seems half decent to me. Then swing Jose and/or Davis in another deal to grab a better PG or SG depending on who is drafted, play Kleiza/JJ/Ersan spot minutes at the PF, and that's a good young team that can shoot the ball, rebound, and hopefully defend.
Ilyasova and McGee. They are young and they have potential.
You can't assume that Valanciunas is going to be a legit starter in his rookie season.
Jose / #8
DD / #8
Ilyasova / Kleiza
Bargnani / Amir
McGee / Valanciunas
This team can fight for the 8th seed in the East
I doubt Coach Casey would approve having McGee's poor IQ on the team. But you are correct in saying it's wrong to assume Val will be a legit starter this year.
I can't see Ilyasova as a 3. His success with Mil came as a PF. He is not quick enough to guard SF's and his ball handling skills are not strong enough to be a 3.
I'd like to see Nash here. Forget that he is Canadian. There is no better leader on or off the court for a team as young as ours. Having Nash at PG could actually be a turning point for this organization.
I like Asik, but I think the bulls want him back. As for Mayo, I doubt he'd be worth the money he's looking for, but if we can get him at a discount, let him and DD fight for minutes.

I think Ersan could defend other 3's, but I do question his handles. As for Nash, I would love to have him on the team, but not if it eats up all the available cap space. Getting Batum and Hill rather than Nash seems like more sense to me.

I like both those guys but neither one makes sense for this team at this point imo. Batum is a skilled guy and an NBA calibre SF but not a leader. Hill is a solid 6-8 guy but that does not help us much right now.
The biggest focus on this team right now should be the growth of our young players like Val, Derozan, 8th pick, Davis and even Bargs. None of these guys are Westbrooke or Durant so they will need leadership to help with their growth. I would happily sacrifice cap space for 2 years to ensure their continued growth. There is no better than a team first pg like Nash to help them along the way. Every single one of them would benefit from the style of play that Nash brings to the table and his on and off court leadership. Bringing on Batum and Hill still leaves this squad leaderless and that has plagued us for a long time.
Granted if we draft a guy like Lilliard that changes everything but I'd be surprised if he is there for us after the show he has been putting on everywhere he goes.

I think the draft will give us a better picture for free agency.
If Lillard is somehow on the board at 8, then take him. Then, move Jose's contract and bring in Nash to help Lillard develop under Nash.
One way or another, we should have a good idea what the plans are after Thursday.
George Hill - solid PG. Simply whatever happens with draft / trades / Jose... we need a good PG to run the floor 45% of the time. In my mind worth $5M a year for 3 years as you hope he will accept the role of secondary / primary / secondary PG over the time as we assume / know Jose is gone and the young stud is not yet here.
Anthony Parker - I'll say it again - bring back AP !!!
3 Million per with player option year 2 and team option year 3 for something like the same money as Vet MLE. High Quality Character player - decent skills - defensive intensity - will push the young gunz to work harder play smarter. Relates well with Euro Players having played there himself.

Anthony is what we want.
I'd bring AP back but not for 3 million over 2 years.
Maybe 1.5 with team option in second year, but that's it for a guy who shouldn't really get any minutes on this team. I'd start grooming him to be an assistant coach. I loved the guy when he was here, but he has really slowed down as he is aging. I think he is 38 now. Not too many SG's that can play at 38.
Kaman is two years past an All Star season. Doesnt look to fit into NO plans. Has some known injury bugs....
Ill bet he knows the kids game cause he played head to head in Euro-tourney. Germany vs Lithuana as I recall.
1 year and a player option for a 2nd ? Or 1 - 1 - 1 the 2nd being a player option and the thrid a team option for less ?
I mean Aaron Grey is a nice kid and our Toronto local is kinda fun to watch.... but thats all over behind us. Kaman as starter first half season - co starter 2nd half season - mentor off the bench in seasons 2 / 3 is better than the platoon at 5 we have now. Leaves Barges / Davis / Amir as dedicated 4.
---
Thing is i bet Kaman is the back up plan for everyone not in the Dwight Howard bidding auction so..... at what cost?? Shrug... i dont know we would play for Toronto if someone gives him $ Million 8 - 6.5 - 5.0 over 3.
Weird scenario I thought of while talking to my dad last night:
Derrick Rose will miss at least half the season. Perhaps it would make sense for both teams to make a trade of Luol Deng for Jose Calderon. The Raptors, in turn, could either draft Lillard at #8, or make that Houston deal for Kyle Lowry.
