Default Predictions for Kyrie Irving

Just curious what everyone thinks? Will he improve, will he have a sophomore slump similar to tyreke after winning ROY. I think he will improve with more minutes and freedom

24/3/7/1.3 steals 48% fg 88% ft

I think he will have a good year, but I don't see him scoring 24ppg. Point guards don't generally score that much, unless they are either: a) a chucker or b) a combo guard.

The best thing for him would be to keep the scoring about where it was last year, but boost up the assists.

sophomore slump. The league will figure him out and he will just be a good point guard. He will have similar numbers to his rookie year. Maybe a little better. Oh, and he will probably miss a 1/4 of the season to some injury.

Nothing less than best all around point guard in the league by his fourth season.

Its rare to find someone that can shoot and drive and have a mid range game like Irving had his rookie year

Similar year to last season. I think he'll breakout in his 3rd year.

I expect his points, assists, rebounds and steals to go up a bit with the increased minutes played and a less frantic schedule. One thing people aren't talking much about when it comes to Irving... What not having Ramon Sessions did/will do to his minutes. Byron Scott had the benefit of bringing Kyrie along very slowly last year because he had a very capable backup point guard. When that safety blanket was gone for Byron, you saw a dramatic increase in Kyrie's minutes and an increase in his overall production.

With all of that said, I wouldn't be surprised if his efficiency dropped a bit. Let's face it... percentages of 47/88/40 are insanely high for a point guard at any stage of their career, let alone a teenaged rookie. I think his FT% and 3PT% may actually go up, but overall FG% may drop, only because That 46-48% range is insanely difficult for this position in a league filled with quality PGs.

With those increased minutes and a heavier lean on him offensively, a slight drop in FG% is almost to be expected.

I'm thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, 1.5 steals on 44/90/40. That would be a very solid season for Kyrie.

The biggest strides he needs to make this year is his defense. He is already a borderline elite offensive player, imo.

I expect he'll get better as a player, but his stats will stay about the same as his rookie season due to receiving more attention from the opposition. I agree with what someone said above about him having a big third year, barring injuries.

if he improves defensively, and as a passer, ill be hapy, even if he regresses as his efficeincy. his raw stats should go up though, with an increase in minutes.

like rba said, that efficeincy is pretty crazy for a rookie pg, who played 13 games in college, im kinda expecting a dip in some of his shooting percentages.

I dont think he will have 2nd year slump. I wont be surprise if he averaged 20 a game to be honest, minutes will be the biggest factor, with no legit back up he should play 38-40 minutes a game. Im excited for the cavs, thompson looks better too, as for waiters, i look for him to struggle this season, that jump shot looks broke tbh.
