I actually think we should go the other way. A president's first year is mostly dominated by policies set out by his predecessor, and the last two years of the first term is increasingly spent on campaigning for reelection. You're getting maybe 5 or 6 good years out of a two-term president. Maybe a three term limit.

Although, ultimately, I don't think the system is so flawed now as to need an overhall.

IMO for a position as important as president, there shouldnt be second terms.
Hmm... let's think about this. Who recently had a second term, and was a featured part of their party's campaign efforts this year?

And which dude got a second term and was completely shunned by his party during this election?

So I guess maybe second terms can be helpful if the person actually does something good with it, eh?

So ignorant....

Second terms shouldn't be allowed, as Obama was allowed to brush off Libya after so obviously lying about it because it was an election year. He did nothing, because it was an election year. Is there really nothing wrong with this?

Logic fail. With only 1 term they would have to same exact issue that you are complaining about in their first term.

The OP makes some decent points, but a 4 year term is not much time to accomplish much anyway. Maybe a single 6 year term would be better.

You'll get nowhere here using common sense and logic.

Conservatives post-election remind me of the Black Knight in The Holy Grail. "This? Tis nothing but a flesh wound..."

Your logic sucks, the same thing you said about the second term can be said about the first term if a second term didn't exist, savvy?

I'm of the belief that there should be no term limits. People get what they vote for. When they have enough they vote the person or people out. Term limits are a cop out. The only term limit should be each individuals ability to get off the couch and vote.

I don't mind two terms for a president. I'd be all about imposing term limits on the House and Senate, too. "Professional politician" should not be a career option...it should be a term of service and that's it.
