It is a semi-scam. You will very likely to waste you bids since others' auto-bid will steal yours at the last seconds, and the auto-bid will suck your money dry.
Everything being auctioned is auctioned by the site itself.
Now it's extremely unlikely you'll win anything with those 10 bids, because if you watch any auction they get a lot of bids.
So lets say an iPad ends up selling for $25.00 well that means it got 2500 bids at 60 cents a piece. It means the site really got $1525 for that iPad.

But, but, if I'm smart I may be able to abuse the system. (that has way worse odds than any casino)

Yup, precisely. Or just the old saying, if it's too good to be true, it usually is.
I tried it, and I bought an earrings that "supposedly" be worth about $170 bucks for 50 cents + 7 bucks for shipping. My friend got a new ipad for 60 bucks. But overall, I wouldn't recommend it because it's pretty much gambling which is addictive and waste of money.
If you really want to try it yourself, try bidding during night time because at night, it has less competition.
