Default Greg Popovich the GOAT?

He leads his teams to victory regardless of who he decides to play night in and and night out. At the same time you have teams like the Heat, Thunder, Clippers, Knicks, as well as others who will go with a full rotation and can't win as consistently. I believe this has to be a testament as to how intelligent and skilled Pop is as a coach and his philosophy to the game of basketball. Is there anybody better?

Pop has been a great coach and not only does he win games but he wins championships too. I would have to agree that he is currently the best coach right now. He has a good eye in talent and gets the most out of his players. My gripe is that he doesn't win as much as he should.

On that note, the greatest coach of all time would have to be Phil Jackson.

Phil Jackson is severely overrated, so maybe.

Despite the arguments that some will make about the rosters he has had I will agree with you that he is not overrated, but lets keep this on topic. Is Pop the GOAT? I feel like he could get 42 wins out of the Bobcats

you forgot to mention he played with GOAT contending superstars every year (MJ, Pip, Shaq, Kobe, etc). Lets not act like he did WONDROUS things (though i give him credit for 2009, 2010 championships.. that was probably his best work as a coach)

It's easier said than done. Having GOATs doesn't equate to championships. It needs that special coach to get them over the hump. You can call Phil a specialist when it comes to getting teams over the hump.

Let's say a team like the Buffalo Bills of the NFL, they went to the Super Bowl 4 times and couldn't win it. If there was a football equivalent to Phil, they would have gotten over the hump.

I would take Pop over any coach if I was starting a team.

No one is doubting his accomplishments, but you also can't argue that PJax was absolutely blessed with talent. MJ, Pippen, Shaq, Kobe, etc..

3 top 10 players alltime? That's just nuts when you really think about it.

But look at how Pop develops young players and how well his teams mesh every single season. He's been blessed with Robinson, Duncan, Parker & Manu obviously, but he really gets the most out of each and every single player on his roster. Man is a genius imo. Take him over anyone every single time.

I have trouble putting Pops up with the greats. It's boom or bust in the playoffs, either win it all or bow out early. Great regular season coach, great at managing his players but once the playoff begin, He's not quite up there with Riley, Jackson or Auerbach

10 times he's had the best regular season record, six times the second best record but he's also bowed out of the playoffs in the first or second round 11 times

Hmmm, I wouldn't say Phil is overrated. He does get credit for an offensive system that he didn't even invent though. That was Tex Winter, who no one outside of hardcore ball fans has ever heard of.
