Default Game Thread: Sonics Hosting Clippers

Los Angeles Clippers(28-29) @
Seattle Sonics(22-35)

WHEN: Thursday, March 1st, 2007 - 7:30 PM PT; 10:30 PM ET
WHERE: Key Arenas - Seattle, WA
MEDIA: TNT; ESPN AM 710
Season Meetings: Sonics Win 95-85
Clippers Win 98-76
Clippers Win 96-91

Clippers Projected Starters

| | | |
Daniel Ewing | Cuttino Mobley | Corey Maggette | Tim Thomas | Elton Brand

Key Reserves
Will Conroy | Quinton Ross | Chris Kaman

Bobcats Projected Starters:

| | | |
Earl Watson | Ray Allen | Rashard Lewis | Chris Wilcox | Nick Collison

Key Reserves
Luke Ridnour | Mickael Gelabale | Johan Petro

Q's Prediction: Clippers Win 98-94
Q's Prediction Record: 34-23

Q's Game Preview:

Quote:
After a win at the Staples Center, the Sonics will be looking for revenge at home, while the Clippers will try to get back to .500. Clippers were lead by Maggette and Brand's scoring Wednesday night along with Elton's phenomenal all around game, dropping 7 dimes, a new season high. Cassell has an abdominal strain if I'm not mistaken and may miss the game, which will mean that youngsters Daniel Ewing and Will Conroy will have a lot of pressure on their shoulders respectively. Sonics' Ray Allen couldn't do much against Clippers' Wing Quinton Ross, who has been giving Allen fits. Mike Dunleavy Sr. is 7-1 in his last 8 against Seattle and the Clippers are 8-5 on the second night of back to back games, they were 0-13 on the first, but ended it finally.

Sonics always lose their 1st game of a 2 game series, and win the second one by a blowout

According To Mike Greenfield from TeamRankings.com, the Sonics are expected to be victors by a margin of 1.6 or better. Seattle also has a 57.1% chance to win the game, which is the least of the night as the Sonics are ranked 24th in the Rankings and the Clippers are 17th. Let's go Clippers!

What happened to a sweep? Oh yeah, LA's front court dominated and won the PG battle easily :). Allen went 8-22 from the field and 1-3 behind the arc with 4 turnovers. Most of those points were when Ross wasn't in the game, expect an encore tonight with Ross giving Allen fits AGAIN

I can't remember a day where Lewis and Ray shot as bad as they did last night from 3 pointers...And we got way too many TOs, and oh yeah, Watson choked

That was all the work of Quinton Ross[Allen at least, he was on Lewis once or twice]. The kid is an exceptional man defender, he may not have the steals, blocks to show it, but he can really give players fits. Hell, last year in the playoffs, he frustrated Carmelo and during the Clippers home opener this year where Melo got ejected, it was all the work of Quinton Ross

Well I guess he is pretty good, you got a defensive stopper...

Anyways, good luck in tonight's game

They still have a shot to make it[6 games out 8th, 6.5 out of 7th seeds] but they need a win to have any sort of hope. A loss tonight will all but eliminate them IMO

How the Clippers will need Elton to do that. After tonight, the PF's he has to face: Jermaine O'Neal, Tim Duncan, Al Harrington[should dominate here], Rasheed Wallace/Chris Webber, Tim Duncan, Juwan Howard?, Emeka Okafor, Mikki Moore, PJ Brown. Not an easy stretch by any means, but can he? He better. I actually don't expect him to be beasting by scoring though, but I expect a lot of dimes for him, rebounds and blocks.

Yeah, probably some nice scoring games too. Brand is a guy who always has great second halfs of the season. Now with Cassel and lil Livingston out, he has too. But with Maggette back in the starting 5 he's got his buddy back too. Now if only Kaman would get his head out of his own ass, they'd at least have a nice front court. I expect Mobley to step up to. He's a smart veteran, and he's still got skills. Not sure about the pg situation, maybe they can give A Williams a call again.

How was Wil Conroy in the NBDL? He just got called up.

Mobley has been scoring 18 ppg in the last 5[nearly 5 points above his season average] and yes, I expect him to continue with this streak. Kaman seems to be slowly getting back to normal averaging 12.6/9.2 in the last 5[10.4 and 7.9 in the last 10]. Not only does Brand need to go back to last years form and Kaman wake up, but Thomas needs to hit shots, Ross needs to drive like he used to and Maggette needs to continue to slash instead of jacking up jumpers. The PG situation hurts and the Clippers should appeal for a 16th roster spot like Denver did last year since they have two players out for the season and with Atkins or Francis might be getting bought out, LA could sign one of them and they have the tools needed to make an impact

Conroy averaged 16/11/5 or so in the D-League and was energetic on the bench cheering the team on, he should get some PT tonight with Cassell maybe being out
