Default Suns Trade Thomas to Seattle

The Suns traded center Kurt Thomas this morning in a move that relieves some salary-cap pressure.

Thomas goes to the Seattle SuperSonics, along with the Suns' own 2008 and 2010 first-round draft picks in exchange for a future conditional 2nd round pick and a trade exception, worth about $8 million.

The league's new luxury tax threshold -- the number at which teams would begin to be taxed -- came in higher than the Suns expected, at $67.9 million, and would have left Phoenix more than $10 million over that number.

The Suns also re-signed Sean Marks. If draft picks Alando Tucker and D.J. Strawberry make the team, that would leave Phoenix with one roster position open. They will be looking to fill it with a free-agent front-line player.

Are the Suns deliberately trying to destroy their future? Just to save a few bucks? Wasn't Thomas an expirer anyway?

Horribe, for the Suns. Thomas was their only solid interior defender.

Hmm I don't get it ? Thomas is an expirer anyway, why give up 2 first round picks just to dump him ?

Phoenix owner must be cheap as hell. They could have had a title by now imho if they didn't keep giving their depth away for nothing.

Steal for the Sonics, a veteran expirer and 2 1st round picks for 1 2nd round pick and an exception

Basically this means Orlando has ended up giving the Sonics 2 1st round picks and Kurt Thomas for the priviledge of overpaying Rashard Lewis one more year.

I hate this move completely for more than just the cap relief. A follow up move better be in the works.

Yes, he was an expirer, but as is, the Suns were set to be $10 over the cap, which isn't acceptable here, so most aren't surprised. What I am upset about is that they gave up 2 phuckin first round picks. Why they think they don't need younger players is beyond me.

Now who's going to try and guard Duncan? Phuck this.

I am thoroughly disgusted by Sarver. Kurt Thomas made an incredible contribution to the Suns the past two seasons, especially helping in improving their defense and toughness. Now watch the Suns go sign some tall white stiff who will sit on the bench and throw a towel around in the air as the Suns win 55+ games, and get knocked out in the 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs.

After this trade, I am not sure if the Suns will make the NBA Finals. Giving up 2 first round picks is a joke, possible chance that Nash could end up breaking a foot or any other severe injury..missing the playoffs in 2008 or 2010..

Yeah, this is pretty bad.

The theme going into the offseason presented by Sarver himself was that they were going to give it one more year, money not mattering. Then they sell a draft pick, trade James Jones for cash, and now dump their ONLY interior defensive player for cap relief, AND give up 2 first rounders.

Thanks Sarver, you piece of *****. This completely offsets the Grant Hill deal, and actually will make them worse, especially come playoff time.

Isn't Pat Burke still there? That's his job.
