I believe it's possible; I'm sure people said the same thing about the Toronto Raptors last year. Joe Johnson would have to be amazing, though. Horford would have to become a veteran quickly, and Josh Smith would have to rebound alot as well. I don't see them strong enough down low, but I didn't see Toronto strong enough down low, either. I think it's always possible, even with a young team, but right at this moment I still have them as a bottom-ten team.
They have got a chance. A much, much better chance that last year (obviously). The Hawks are stacked with some great players--some of which are beginning to develop into the players they were predicted to be, ie: Marvin Williams. When Johnson and Smith are hot, they're hot. Zaza is playing some of the best ball I've ever seen from him. Excellent inside game.
But they're only 3-6...
Will they be able to stay healthy and consistent throughout the entire year? Ahh..I don't know. We'll have to wait and see.
Right now, focus should be put on developing as a team, with long-term interests in finishing near, or possibly in, the 8th playoff seed. I don't see it happening, too much youth, but there's always the chance. If they were going to contend, however, I think we'd have seen that by now.
