The Philadelphia 76ers were heavily and publicly shopping Allen Iverson trying to trade him away, but when they couldn't find any takers, they couldn't trade him.
You have to wonder how frustrated Allen Iverson is with the Philadelphia 76ers right now. He poured his heart and soul in this franchise, and now they want to trade him.
This reminds a Los Angeles Lakers fan of the time when Shaquille O'Neal was rumored to be traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to another team. The Los Angeles Lakers didn't get the talent that was equal to Shaquille O'Neal's talent although Lamar Odom is pretty good.
Fast-forward to 2006, the Philadelphia 76ers might have to trade away Allen Iverson for players who might not be equal to his value, not out of necessity, but maybe because one or both parties are not satisfied??? Not confirmed, pure speculation.
If Allen Iverson is traded, don't expect the Philadelphia 76ers to get fair or equal value in return.
lakers had immense pressure put on them by shaq and his childish antics at the time. Iverson has been acting in a mature way, talkin about how he wants to be a sixer for life, and if worse comes to worse he'll be a professional whereever he gets traded. Im sure King and Kupchak's situation at the time are far different.

The fact that Iverson sctually said that whatever happens, he just want the best for the 76ers organization is a true testament to how much he's grown up and matured. I hope he gets traded to a contender (or near contender) and he helps lead them to glory. I wouldn't want him riding the coattails of anyone, though, like Payton or Zo. I'd want him to be the guy that got the team their championship, whoever it may be.
It's very embarassing for the Sixers organization. AI wants to stay, fans want him to stay, and all you hear in the news is the Sixers trying to get one too many scrub rookies from the Celtics or something in a deal for him. And after all this if he isn't traded? Major disrespect, only thing that could be worse is if they deal him for a bunch of "young talent" that has done nothing in the NBA so far, expiring contracts, and he goes to a team with a bunch of young kids who won't reach their prime until he's retired (cough Blazers).

And you know that if he does end up staying, he's still going to put it all on the line, no matter what, and he'll still be arguably the hardest working player in the NBA.
AI is playing it smart. Looks like he did learn a thing or two from his former coach Larry Brown in making himself look like the good guy if he does gets traded.

I think you'd have to practice with the team to qualify for that title.
AI has been shopped around every year. How is this year any different? How is this year any different then the year he was all but traded....until Gieger saved the day? Only to gave AI rejoin the team/franchise and play for a coach that was the reason AI was going to be traded. AI said it himself while he wants to finish his career in Philly he will understand if the team wants to trade him. All he asks is that when they trade him they HELP themselves because it would kill him if they traded him and didnt help thier franchise.
No respect nor love is lost. AI is a standup guy and was treated as such. When trade talks were serious he was pulled in the office and made aware he was put on the table. AI respects that then sitting home and hearing on sportscenter he had been dealt. So get over it, AI is happy and people are making it like he is hurt, bitter. He's not. AI trade talks has been around yearly. This year isnt any different besides the media making a big deal out of it.
How often do players of AI status get traded for fair or equal value? Shaq wasnt. Barkley wasnt. Vince wasnt. Grant Hill wasnt. But thanks for stating the obvious. Appreciated.
no matter what philly does, they are going to get screwed if they trade iverson, but at the end of the day, they have too, cuz they aint going anywhere anways, they might as well blow it all up, and if history tells you anything that is exactly what they gonna do in trading iverson
When you trade a franchise player you never get fair value for two reasons
1.) how can you possibly get significantly better if you trade one of the best players in the league
2.) it is not like someone is going to offer you their franchise player striaght up, cus at the end of the day, no one gets their team any better
Because of these two things when teams trade their franchise player, the only thing they get is a combination of draft picks, young players with or without potential, high priced over paid veterans whether they are good or not to make the contracts match, and some other scrub/filler.
if you look at the trade of any major franchise player in the last 15 years, this is the trend they will follow.
- Vince Carter trade
- Shaq trade
- Mcgrady trade
- Barkley trade(which made philly so bad that they got the #1 pick and ironically drafted iverson
so if they trade iverson they are in automatic rebuilding mode for sure and billy king gets fired leaving someone else to pick up the pieces
