Default our overseas drafted prospects:

ERAZEM LORBEK

-23 yrs old
-drafted #46, '05
-6'10" F from Slovenia
-currently playing for italy for Lottomatica Roma (12.8pts/5.1rbds)
-played one yr at michigan state (6.4pts/3.3rbds)
-won the '04 euroleague rising star award
-MVP in '02 of the junior european championships

draft profile:
http://www.nbadraft.net/profiles/erazemlorbek.asp

i can't read italian but i think it says his contract is up 6/08. we might see him in a pacer uniform next season? maybe we'll at least get him over here for some preseason action.

current active players picked after him include andray blatche and ryan gomes.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
STANKO BARAC

-21 yrs old
-drafted #39, '07
-7'1" F/C from Bosnia
-currently playing for Parmesa Valencia in Spain*
-helped win '06 Bosnian Cup
-'07 Bosnian Champion
-averaged 13pts/7.1rbds/1.8blks in Bosnian league
-can't find current stats

draft profile:
http://www.nbadraft.net/admincp/libr...o-barac-hd.jpg

*he's playing in Spain but here's the deal...he's actually being loaned to play there from Tau Ceramica (Spain again) to get some playing time. i'm guessing it's just a lower level league. wait, this isn't even the crazy part. he's on contract for 5 years. i don't think we'll be seeing this dude anytime soon unless Bird and Walsh wanna buy him out. i'm gonna go so far to say we may never see this guy at all.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

i could swear we got another dude over there. i'll keep searching.

Those guys don't seem like they'll be much. If they become steals, great, but I don't put much hope in overseas prospects.

the more i look into these guys and think about other team's 2nd round euro draft picks, the more i realize that it's all a bunch of crap. i don't see the use of drafting a player that may or may not ever come to play. that guy that ORL drafted 2 years ago is a perfect example. he was all hyped up at the draft talking about how excited he was to come play in the nba only to change his mind and stayed overseas.

Yeah, Fran Vasquez was his name, I think. He was being compared to Pau Gasol, and I thought he and Dwight Howard would have been a great combo, but with him staying overseas, it looks like Orlando might want to look for another post guy to match with Howard.

It works for the Spurs, but we don't have much pressure on our draft picks since we're a prety good team either way, and international players fit well in our offense.

i beginning to think that way to all these late round overseas players. i can't stand seeing a pick wasted on someone from another country* when we have players here in america dying to play.

*i'm meaning specifically guys like these, not the ones everyone knows will play (bogut, bargnani, etc.)

Well, it's good to know catz might be stopping by every once in a while. We're all right. They ain't coming over unless they can prove to us they're the next Dirk or Pau.

I've heard really good things about Stanko. I'm not sure if/when he'll ever be here, but if he keeps progressing at the rate I hear he has been some team may like to trade for his rights.

crazy thing was... if I remember right...they revealed the reason he chose to stay overseas and not come to the NBA like he had previously stated he wanted to....

because his girlfriend didn't want to move to America.

Nice info thread. I remember Bird said that he's gonna keep these guys overseas and bring them over in their prime (late 20s, early 30s). I guess he thinks they will be polished players then and ready to make an instant impact. I don't really have a problem with it, especially since they are some intriguing prospects and international players usually take a while to develop and mature but they are usually very complete players once they develop some more. Better to let them get experience rather than shifting around the D-League and the back of our bench.

i hope he's made a better decision on these guys than he did w/ jasikevicius. i don't care what anyone says, he was a bust. "best pg in europe", whatever.
