All I know is that we have to do something to make up for Bynum’s loss in order for us to stay elite. Kwame just isn’t cutting it and Kobe can’t score nearly 50 points every game!
I was going to start a thread about this fact. I really want to know the last time we were in first place this late in the season. Anyway, on the sh*ttier side of things we have to play about 26 games without Bynum (maybe a bit more, hopefully a bit less). If we go .500 that leaves us at 39-24 with 19 games left to play. When Bynum comes back we can go 13-6 (conservatively) and we end up with 52 wins. That's really good, definitely at least a top 5 spot, and a fresh Bynum with momentum going into the playoffs. So even in a really awful scenario I don't see us ending up with less than 50 wins and less than a 5 seed. But yeah, enjoy this #1 spot while it lasts (like until Thursday).

Wow, today they have SOLE possession of first place in the Western Conference. Now the Clippers beat the Suns. Can the Lakers do it tomorrow night without Bynum????
Yup! Thanks to the Suns losing to the worst team in the West we are now in the number one spot! I hope we stretch out our lead on them by coming up with a W on Thursday.
I mean...look at us before the season started....Nothing but drama. Everyone was writing us off as they should of. But our TEAM (not just Kobe, Bynum, and Phil) has played well and we are on top of the Western Conference....the whole damn WEST!!!! We got to take pride in our boys. I know Bynum will be out for a while etc. but If our boys keep playing well we could still be looking at a 50+ win season. I still don't think we will remain on top...but a bet you this....when Bynum gets back and we stay healthy....NO TEAM will want to see us in the playoffs!!!! Just bring it!!!! Lakers baby!!!!!!
It will not last given the state of the Lakers right now, but lets enjoy it for now!
you never know....i know this is just blind optimism, but maybe we sign webber and continue to get some wins while bynums out .....and then when bynum comes back, we're that much better and contend for a title!
